\n\tNearly a year after his death<\/a>, Ozzy Osbourne<\/a> is set to return \u2014\u00a0as an AI<\/a>-powered avatar<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe news was revealed at Licensing Expo in Las Vegas on Wednesday (May 20), when Osbourne\u2019s son, Jack Osbourne, announced the project during a discussion about the future of Ozzy\u2019s brand that also included Ozzy\u2019s widow, Sharon Osbourne.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s kind of scary how it\u2019s really very accurate,\u201d said Jack at the event, according to a recap from Licensing Expo organizer License Global. \u201cHe will exist digitally as himself for as long as we have computers. Technology has come such a long way to where it\u2019s almost drag and drop. You could shoot a template for a commercial \u2026 literally prompt what you want Digital Ozzy to do in that commercial and you just drop it in. It\u2019s that simple now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Ozzy avatar is the result of a partnership between Hyperreal \u2014 which describes itself as a \u201cdigital human technology company\u201d that uses patented \u201cDigital DNA\u201d technology to create digital avatars \u2014 and Proto Hologram, described as a \u201chologram and AI spatial compute platform in entertainment, healthcare, education, finance, retail and more.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to Hyperreal, its Digital DNA technology will allow Ozzy\u2019s avatar to \u201chave conversations with fans and move, speak, and respond as Ozzy would.\u201d The company tells Billboard the Ozzy avatar will begin appearing in Proto Luma units \u2014\u00a0essentially life-sized, interactive touchscreens \u2014 in the U.S. and U.K. beginning late summer of 2026.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEvery element of this avatar was built exclusively from authenticated, approved source material: curated, consented, and controlled by the people who love him most,\u201d said Hyperreal CEO Remington Scott<\/strong> in a statement sent to Billboard. \u201dThis is a living performance, not a rendering; and it draws from nothing that wasn\u2019t given willingly. We have the enthusiastic participation of Ozzy\u2019s family, and that changes everything about what this can be.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s an honor to be trusted to bring one of true gods of rock back to the world to continue to connect with fans \u2014 thank you Sharon and Jack!\u201d added David Nussbaum<\/strong>, founder of Proto Hologram. \u201cWe wouldn\u2019t do it if we didn\u2019t know both of our company\u2019s technologies will create an experience that truly extends Ozzy\u2019s presence, his heart and soul, into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThis isn\u2019t the first time Hyperreal has created a digital avatar of a celebrity. In the past, the company has debuted avatars of notable figures including The Notorious B.I.G., soccer star Lionel Messi and Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee.<\/p>\n
