{"id":500672,"date":"2026-05-24T16:37:43","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T16:37:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/500672\/"},"modified":"2026-05-24T16:37:43","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T16:37:43","slug":"translucent-centre-pompidou-hanwha-set-to-open-in-seoul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/500672\/","title":{"rendered":"Translucent Centre Pompidou Hanwha set to open in Seoul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Centre Pompidou Hanwha designed by French architecture studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/jean-michel-wilmotte\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wilmotte &amp; Associ\u00e9s<\/a> has been revealed ahead of its opening in Seoul, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/south-korea\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">South Korea<\/a>, next month.<\/p>\n<p>Set to open in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/seoul\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seoul<\/a>&#8216;s financial district on 4 June, the four-storey building contains two large galleries alongside a cafe, shop, restaurant and auditorium. It occupies the former annexe of the 63 Building skyscraper, which was reimagined by Paris-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilmotte.com\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wilmotte &amp; Associ\u00e9s<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2329279 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/centre-pompidou-hanwha-seoul-wilmotte-associes_dezeen_2364_col_16-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Centre Pompidou Hanwha exterior\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Centre Pompidou Hanwha is opening in Seoul next month<\/p>\n<p>An inaugural exhibition, named The Cubists: Inventing Modern Vision, will mark the museum&#8217;s opening and feature works from the museum&#8217;s collection.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Beginning with this inaugural exhibition, Centre Pompidou Hanwha aims to reinterpret the innovative artistic spirit of Centre Pompidou within Korea&#8217;s cultural context, establishing itself as a new cultural and artistic landmark in Seoul and an open platform for art,&#8221; the museum said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2329289 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/centre-pompidou-hanwha-seoul-wilmotte-associes-architecture_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Centre Pompidou Hanwha lobby interior\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>The museum&#8217;s inaugural exhibition is named The Cubists: Inventing Modern Vision<\/p>\n<p>Externally, the structure&#8217;s upper floors have been clad in bands of translucent panels sat atop an exposed-concrete base.<\/p>\n<p>Chosen to evoke the forms of traditional Korean tiles, these panels draw light into the interior during the day while transforming the venue into a &#8220;box of light&#8221; at night.<\/p>\n<p>At roof level, an open-air terrace flanks an indoor restaurant overlooking the nearby Han River.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/05\/01\/cobe-warehouse-the-museum-of-furniture-studies-ikea\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/museum-of-furniture-studies-cobe-ikea_dezeen_2364_col_sq-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"IKEA museum with large windows\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p> IKEA unveils plans for Museum of Furniture Studies designed by Cobe\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, at ground level, the Centre Pompidou Hanwha opens up to a spacious lobby containing the reception area and shop.<\/p>\n<p>A bronze cubist sculpture created by French sculptor Raymond Duchamp-Villon sits at the centre of the space and is illuminated by a skylight.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2329283 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/centre-pompidou-hanwha-seoul-wilmotte-associes_dezeen_2364_col_20-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Centre Pompidou Hanwha exhibition space by Wilmotte &amp; Associ\u00e9s\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Two spacious galleries occupy the upper floors<\/p>\n<p>The first floor, accessed via escalators, houses an auditorium, studios and flexible space for hosting public programmes, alongside a cafe lined with full-height glazing.<\/p>\n<p>Traversing the second and third floors are a pair of double-height galleries that are each 1,650 square meters, one of which is overlooked by a mezzanine level.<\/p>\n<p>Their stripped back interiors have been fitted with curved walls and raised platforms to display the 112 pieces on show at inaugural exhibition.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2329284 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/centre-pompidou-hanwha-seoul-wilmotte-associes_dezeen_2364_col_21-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Gallery interior by Wilmotte &amp; Associ\u00e9s\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>One of the galleries is wrapped with a mezzanine level<\/p>\n<p>In Paris, the high-tech <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2024\/06\/21\/centre-pompidou-2030-renovation-moreau-kusunoki-frida-escobedo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Centre Pompidou is currently undergoing a major overhaul<\/a> led by Moreau Kusunoki and Frida Escobedo Studio, which is expected to be completed by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, two other Centre Pompidou outposts are in development.
