Russell offered me a movie a million years ago,\u201d he told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/23\/magazine\/nicolas-cage-interview.html?unlocked_article_code=1.klA.SG7y.MgtXx2qYlKpI&amp;smid=url-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The New York Times<\/a>. \u201cIt was a good movie, and he offered it and I said no, and he\u2019s the only director that I ever said no to who actually came back and offered me another movie. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCage, who plays John Madden in the upcoming Russell-helmed biopic Madden, premiering Nov. 26, added, \u201cMost of them, they get their feelings hurt and don\u2019t call you back. It\u2019s happened a million times to me. It\u2019s happened with Christopher Nolan, it\u2019s happened with Woody Allen, it\u2019s happened with Paul Thomas Anderson. I enjoyed working with Christian [Bale], John Mulaney.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tStarring Cage as the legendary football coach and sports commentator, Madden retraces the life of John Madden and his involvement in creating the Madden NFL video game series.
