{"id":501075,"date":"2026-05-24T23:54:06","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T23:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/501075\/"},"modified":"2026-05-24T23:54:06","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T23:54:06","slug":"xiu-xiu-announce-new-david-lynch-inspired-album-eraserhead-xiu-xiu-with-eerie-cover-of-in-heaven","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/501075\/","title":{"rendered":"Xiu Xiu announce new David Lynch-inspired album &#8216;Eraserhead Xiu Xiu&#8217; with eerie cover of &#8216;In Heaven&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/xiu-xiu\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Xiu\u00a0Xiu<\/a>\u00a0have announced their new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/david-lynch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Lynch<\/a>-inspired album \u2018Eraserhead Xiu Xiu\u2019 with an eerie cover of \u2018In Dreams\u2019 \u2013 listen below.<\/p>\n<p>It is only four months since the San Jose experimental band released their last studio record, \u2018Xiu Mutha Fuckin\u2019 Xiu: Vol. 1\u2019, a collection of covers originally released through their Bandcamp subscription page in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Now, they have announced a full-length release dedicated to exploring the \u201csonic and visual universe\u201d of Lynch\u2019s cult debut feature film Eraserhead\u00a0from 1977.\u00a0The seven-track album was recorded in Berlin and will be released on July 10 via\u00a0Polyvinyl\u00a0and you can pre-order it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/xiuxiu.ffm.to\/eraserhead-xiu-xiu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018In Heaven (Lady\u00a0In\u00a0The\u00a0Radiator Song)\u2019 features prominently in\u00a0Eraserhead, with music by Peter Ivers and lyrics by Lynch himself. In Xiu Xiu\u2019s hands, it is a sparsely haunted piece, with whispery theatrical vocals reminiscent of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/scott-walker\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Scott Walker<\/a> and the echo of a solitary, ringing bell, before the track descends into a smashed jumble of field recordings.<\/p>\n<p>Check it out here:<\/p>\n<p>Xiu\u00a0Xiu\u00a0released an album inspired by Lynch\u2019s\u00a0Twin Peaks\u00a0in 2016, with the director\u2019s blessing,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/film\/david-lynch-dies-aged-78-3829681\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">and following his death early last year<\/a>, the band decided to\u00a0return to his oeuvre for inspiration.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Eraserhead Xiu\u00a0Xiu\u2019 makes use of electrical interference, homemade instruments, found sounds, modular\u00a0synths\u00a0and flashlights to conjure some of the eerie majesty of the original film.<\/p>\n<p>The group will\u00a0also\u00a0be\u00a0playing\u00a0the record\u00a0as a live show for a run of dates in\u00a0California\u00a0this year, with two dates at Los Angeles\u2019 2220 Arts + Archives on October 2 and 3 and San Francisco\u2019s Gray Area on October 8.
