In fact, he said he believes young people a decade from now may be leaving behind career prospects on Earth in favor of the broader solar system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2035, that graduating college student, if they still go to college at all, could very well be leaving on a mission to explore the solar system on a spaceship in some completely new, exciting, super well-paid, super interesting job,\u201d Altman said to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hmtuvNfytjM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hmtuvNfytjM\" class=\"sc-4f49155c-0 hLtviE\">video journalist Cleo Abram<\/a> in August.<\/p>\n<p>These jobs will not only enable Gen Alpha graduates to reel in sky-high salaries, but they\u2019ll also be \u201cfeeling so bad for you and I that we had to do this really boring, old work and everything is just better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And while his predictions are bold, AI\u2019s rapid development is increasing the speed of innovation and will help solve some of society\u2019s biggest problems, including, he implies, how to sustain life in space.<\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk: Humans on Mars as soon as 2028<\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/tesla\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/tesla\/\" class=\"sc-4f49155c-0 hLtviE\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tesla<\/a> CEO and the richest man on the planet, has single-handedly been one of most influential leaders in pushing for 21st-century space. After all, he\u2019s the cofounder and CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-07-08\/spacex-valuation-said-to-hit-around-400-billion-in-share-sale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-07-08\/spacex-valuation-said-to-hit-around-400-billion-in-share-sale\" class=\"sc-4f49155c-0 hLtviE\">$400 billion<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/spacex\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/spacex\/\" class=\"sc-4f49155c-0 hLtviE\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">SpaceX<\/a>, which has worked hand in hand with NASA to advance space exploration.<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX has had its fair share of setbacks, including just this week when a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/08\/25\/science\/spacex-starship-launch.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/08\/25\/science\/spacex-starship-launch.html\" class=\"sc-4f49155c-0 hLtviE\">Mars test rocket was delayed<\/a>. However, Musk is hopeful unmanned Mars rockets will commence as soon as next year, with the first crewed flight in 2028.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to die on Mars, just not on impact,\u201d Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/culture\/elon-musk-at-sxsw-id-like-to-die-on-mars-just-not-on-impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/culture\/elon-musk-at-sxsw-id-like-to-die-on-mars-just-not-on-impact\/\" class=\"sc-4f49155c-0 hLtviE\">said<\/a> in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Bezos: Space will be bigger than packages<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Bezos started <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/amazon-com\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/amazon-com\/\" class=\"sc-4f49155c-0 hLtviE\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Amazon<\/a> in his garage as an idea for an online bookstore. The company\u2019s mission is focused on \u201ca future where millions of people will live and work in space with a single-minded purpose: to restore and sustain Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company is most known today for space tourism.
