Phil Neville has left his role as manager of MLS side Portland Timbers by mutual consent.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Neville departs after two-and-a-half seasons in charge, with the club currently sitting 13th in the Western Conference. <\/p>\n

The former Premier League<\/a> defender’s side have lost eight of their 14 league games so far this campaign, including a 2-1 defeat to San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday.<\/p>\n

This is Neville’s second exit from an MLS<\/a> club after he was sacked as Inter Miami manager in 2023<\/a>. <\/p>\n

His former Manchester United<\/a> teammate and Miami owner, David Beckham<\/a>, let him go with the club at the bottom of the table.<\/p>\n

Portland appointed him as their boss five months after that, but they have also now let the Englishman go.<\/p>\n

On his exit, Neville said: “I’d like to thank Merritt Paulson [owner], Ned Grabavoy [general manager], and the entire Portland family for their unwavering support in giving me the job and standing behind me.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo my staff, thank you for your incredible loyalty and hard work.<\/p>\n

“And to the most incredible bunch of players: thank you for the effort, the good times, the good results, the bad results, and all the laughs we shared together.<\/p>\n

“I realise we are in a results business, and the results haven’t been to the expectation of this football club.<\/p>\n

“To the Timbers Army \u2014 you are the reason I felt inspired to try and bring success to this club. Keep getting behind the players and the club in this wonderful city.<\/p>\n

“I will miss you all.”<\/p>\n

‘I cannot thank Phil enough’<\/p>\n

Neville is leaving Portland with plenty of appreciation from his bosses<\/a> following his 95-game stint on the touchline.<\/p>\n

His overall record consisted of 34 wins, 24 draws and 37 losses.<\/p>\n

Timbers owner Merritt Paulson said: \u201cIn my nearly two decades of owning and operating the Portland Timbers, there are very few people I have enjoyed working with more than Phil Neville<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cPhil has outstanding leadership qualities and a boundless sense of positivity even in the face of adversity. <\/p>\n

“I cannot thank Phil enough for his tireless dedication to this club and the Portland community, which he and his family truly embraced.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, general manager Ned Grabavoy added: \u201cWe are appreciative of Phil\u2019s commitment and efforts during his time with the Portland Timbers.<\/p>\n

Neville will now look for his next job, having spent the last five years in the United States, taking on his first managerial roles in men’s football.<\/p>\n
