{"id":504185,"date":"2026-05-26T22:57:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T22:57:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/504185\/"},"modified":"2026-05-26T22:57:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T22:57:19","slug":"young-sherlock-team-on-creating-origin-story-of-master-detective","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/504185\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Young Sherlock&#8217; Team On Creating Origin Story Of Master Detective"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFor as iterated as Sherlock Holmes has been since Sir Arthur Conan Doyle first introduced the character in 1887\u2019s novel A Study in Scarlet, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/prime-video\/\" id=\"auto-tag_prime-video\" data-tag=\"prime-video\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Prime Video<\/a> entered a bit of uncharted on-screen territory with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/young-sherlock\/\" id=\"auto-tag_young-sherlock\" data-tag=\"young-sherlock\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Young Sherlock<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe series, which is based on the Young Sherlock Holmes novels by Andrew Lane, reimagines the prolific detective as a 19-year-old Oxford student (played by <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/hero-fiennes-tiffin\/\" id=\"auto-tag_hero-fiennes-tiffin\" data-tag=\"hero-fiennes-tiffin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hero Fiennes Tiffin<\/a>) who gets swept up in his first mystery, which just so happens to involve his father. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cPart of what was really interesting to us is that there\u2019d never been a real origin story of Sherlock,\u201d executive producer <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/marc-resteghini\/\" id=\"auto-tag_marc-resteghini\" data-tag=\"marc-resteghini\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marc Resteghini<\/a> said in a conversation for <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/deadline-studio-at-prime-experience\/\" id=\"auto-tag_deadline-studio-at-prime-experience\" data-tag=\"deadline-studio-at-prime-experience\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Deadline Studio at Prime Experience<\/a>. \u201cEven with the movie that Amblin had done in the \u201980s [1985\u2019s Young Sherlock Holmes directed by Barry Levinson], he was kind of fully formed by the time the movie started. So we saw this as a real opportunity to look at Sherlock before he\u2019s the detective that we all know. How does he get there?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tResteghini was joined by Fiennes Tiffin and his co-stars <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/donal-finn\/\" id=\"auto-tag_donal-finn\" data-tag=\"donal-finn\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">D\u00f3nal Finn<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/zine-tseng\/\" id=\"auto-tag_zine-tseng\" data-tag=\"zine-tseng\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zine Tseng<\/a> in the conversation. Watch the video below, and scroll down for photos from the event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe lack of proper canon opened up a whole world of possibilities for creator-showrunner Matthew Parkhill and creators\/executive producers Guy Ritchie and Peter Harness. Then, it was on Fiennes Tiffin to execute as the bright-eyed, quick-witted teenage version of Holmes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe actor tells Deadline he\u2019s always been a fan of the original works, as well as previous performances from Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr. as an adult Sherlock. In fact, his biggest challenges were not directly related to understanding the character but rather getting into a flow with his co-stars and Ritchie, who also directed all eight episodes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI have worked with Guy Ritchie, our director, before, so I was aware that he isn\u2019t afraid of changing things on the day \u2014\u00a0not just on the day, in the scene with very, very short notice, as we\u2019re all aware now,\u201d he laughed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tRitchie is known for his eclectic directorial style, which is on full display in Young Sherlock. The show weaves an earnest and sometimes heart-wrenching story about a father and son into a wacky, quirky whodunit. If you\u2019re familiar with the lore\u2026 then you\u2019re pretty certain at where it all ends up, but how it goes wrong is still a mystery,\u201d Finn said. \u201cI just think they have different ways of seeing the world, and I think it\u2019s the journey of both of those people, and how their morality starts to part, which allows us to categorize them into nemeses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe very infamous pair are joined in this series by Zine Tseng\u2019s Princess Gulun Shou\u2019an, who proves a useful ally as they try to uncover a globe-trotting conspiracy. Tseng said she strived to \u201cbe their challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI have to be strong enough to be their challenge.
