\n\tIn the wake of his 2016 death, Prince<\/a> left behind an enviable vault <\/a>containing thousands of unreleased songs, most of which will likely never see the light of day. While the late musician\u2019s estate has shared a few selections from the collection over the years, there\u2019s one in particular that Paul McCartney<\/a> is hoping they\u2019ll come around to releasing: a cover Prince recorded of the Beatles<\/a>\u2018 Let It Be single, \u201cThe Long and Winding Road.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was with some guy couple of years ago, so it was after Prince had died, and this guy said, \u2018Have you heard Prince do \u2018Long and Winding Road?’\u201d McCartney<\/a> said on BBC Radio 2\u2019s Tracks of My Years.<\/a> \u201cI said, \u2018Well, no, that\u2019s one of my songs. I don\u2019t think he ever did it.\u2019 He said, \u2018Well, he did. He did it in rehearsal. He was rehearsing it for something.\u2019 So, he said, \u2018I\u2019ll send it to you if you want.\u2019 He sent it to me and it\u2019s really great.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe guy, McCartney believes, was a personal photographer for Prince. He described the recording as \u201ckind of rocky,\u201d adding, \u201cHe plays some really good guitar on it.\u201d McCartney proposed the idea of asking the musician\u2019s estate about what can be done with the hidden recording. \u201cI could make it into something really good,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile the pair didn\u2019t know each other well, McCartney recognized an undeniable talent in Prince. \u201cHe took a lot from [Jimi] Hendrix, but he was a great player. If you watch him play, he\u2019s got that sort of style. Bow! It\u2019s just there\u2019s something about it. You know he knows that instrument,\u201d McCartney said, later adding, \u201cHe\u2019s a special guy. It\u2019s so sad these people, you know, suddenly he\u2019s not here, and it always makes me wish that I\u2019d known him better and that I could sort of say, \u2018Hey, man, come on. What\u2019s going on?\u2019 It\u2019s such a shame because there\u2019s such talents.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLast month, the Prince estate shared the single \u201cWith This Tear\u201d <\/a>from a previously unreleased album project.
