“Let’s try it!” Zorro returns! MHz Choice has revealed the official US trailer for the new Zorro<\/strong> action series, a French production based on the legendary character created in 1919 by American pulp writer Johnston McCulley. It’s the first time since the film Zorro<\/a> (1975) starring Alain Delon that a French actor has played the character of Zorro in live-action. There have been tons of other Zorro series, movies, and more – mostly notably 90s action movie The Mask of Zorro<\/a> with Antonio Banderas, and the classic 1950s TV series with Guy Williams as Zorro. Blending swashbuckling action, light comic flair & romance, the 8-episode series, subtitled in English, premieres this June in the US. Starring acclaimed French actor Jean Dujardin<\/strong> as Don Diego de la Vega \/ Zorro, with Audrey Dana<\/strong>, Andr\u00e9 Dussollier<\/strong>, and Salvatore Ficarra<\/strong> as Bernardo, Don Diego’s mute servant. The filming took place in southern Spain and the post-production was done in Belgium, with the series debuting in France on TV back at the end of 2024. Ready to give it a look? This new interpretation of Zorro carries a playful visual style inspired by the legendary filmmaker Ernst Lubitsch, and was conceived in the tradition of swashbuckling films & French vaudeville. Set in 1821 against the backdrop of a rapidly changing Los Angeles, Don Diego de la Vega (Jean Dujardin) unexpectedly inherits the role of mayor following his father\u2019s death, only to discover a city drowning in debt and under the grip of the powerful Don Emmanuel (Eric Elmosnino) Determined to restore order and bring vital water access to the struggling community, Diego quickly realizes that politics alone cannot combat the corruption, exploitation, and growing unrest surrounding him. Diego secretly revives his long-abandoned alter ego for the first time in 20 years, becoming the masked vigilante Zorro as he fights for the people while publicly trying to govern the city as its conflicted mayor. As Diego struggles to balance civic leadership with his dangerous double life, the lines between the man and the myth begin to blur in increasingly complicated ways. Zorro unexpectedly becomes a celebrated folk hero across Los Angeles, as the city\u2019s citizens rally behind the masked avenger more enthusiastically than its own government. At the same time, Diego\u2019s personal life spirals into emotional chaos as his wife Gabriella (Audrey Dana) becomes drawn to the mystery and passion surrounding Zorro, unaware that the masked figure and her husband are the same man.
