In a new trailer, below, \u201cPrimetime\u201d puts a suspenseful spin on the heyday of NBC\u2019s cultural phenomenon \u201cTo Catch a Predator.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n

The teaser for A24\u2019s upcoming thriller just dropped, offering audiences the chance to catch a glimpse of Robert Pattinson<\/a> as he ominously slips into the sports coat of \u201cDateline NBC\u201d correspondent and \u201cTo Catch a Predator\u201d host Chris Hansen<\/a>. Pattinson\u2019s voice is nearly unrecognizable as he delivers some of Hansen\u2019s signature quips, including \u201cWhat would have happened if I wasn\u2019t here?\u201d and \u201cYou see how this looks, right?\u201d <\/p>\n

The show, which ran from 2004 to 2007 on NBC, was emblematic of the true-crime-obsessed, tabloid-fueled zeitgeist of the aughts. During a typical episode, Hansen, the show\u2019s producers and the watchdog group Perverted-Justice would orchestrate a sting operation in which decoys would pose as minors to lure predatory men to a house with the intent to engage in sexual acts. <\/p>\n

Hansen would then make a dramatic entrance and interrogate the men, who would often stammer and bumble through the encounter before leaving. Outside, police would be waiting to make an arrest, often by tackling the men as cameras followed. <\/p>\n

The show was ultimately canceled<\/a> after the heavily publicized suicide of Louis William Conradt Jr., a Texas prosecutor who was caught talking to and exchanging photos with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old boy. When Conradt didn\u2019t show at the undercover house, NBC and police went to his home in an attempt to serve a search warrant. Conradt died by suicide as the camera crew was making their way into the home. <\/p>\n

The incident<\/a> was featured in a \u201cTo Catch a Predator\u201d segment that aired on \u201cDateline\u201d in February 2007. <\/p>\n

Last year, the documentary \u201cPredators<\/a>\u201d examined the tactics of the investigative series, exploring what \u201cTo Catch a Predator\u201d aimed to do, what it actually did and why people \u2014 including the documentary\u2019s director, David Osit \u2014 were so obsessed.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrimetime,\u201d which also stars Phoebe Bridgers<\/a> making her feature film debut, hits theaters this fall. Check out the teaser below.<\/p>\n
