Box office numbers for \u201cSupergirl\u201d look bleak after lead star Milly Alcock sparked backlash for mocking Christian dads.<\/a><\/p>\n

According to Box Office Theory<\/a>, the DC superhero movie \u2014 which comes out June 26 \u2014 is expected to make between $47 million and $65 million in its opening weekend and between $107 million and $181 million in its full domestic run.<\/p>\n

The budget for the James Gunn-directed film was reportedly around\u00a0$170 million, while the marketing spend is estimated to exceed $75 million, bringing the total to around $245 million.<\/p>\n

Box Office Theory predicts the film, which comes out June 26, will make between $47 million and $65 million in its opening weekend and between $107 million and $181 million in its full domestic run (Alcock is pictured above). Getty Images<\/p>\n

To break even, \u201cSupergirl\u201d needs to make around $425 million worldwide, far less than Box Office Theory\u2019s $350 million global estimation.<\/p>\n

By comparison, Gunn\u2019s \u201cSuperman\u201d starring David Corenswet<\/a> opened to $125 domestically in July 2025 and ended its theatrical run with $618 million worldwide. It cost around $325 million to make and promote.<\/p>\n

The predicted \u201cSupergirl\u201d box office crisis isn\u2019t helped by the stiff competition the film is facing. <\/p>\n

Disney\u2019s \u201cToy Story 5\u201d<\/a> comes out one week earlier, on June 19, and is expected to have a $130 million to $160 million domestic opening and $465 million to $600 million domestic total. <\/p>\n

\u201cSupergirl\u201d is facing competition from \u201cToy Story 5,\u201d \u201cMinions and Monsters\u201d and the live-action \u201cMoana,\u201d which all come out around the same time. Getty Images for CinemaCon<\/p>\n

Then, just five days after \u201cSupergirl\u201d releases, \u201cMinions & Monsters\u201d will arrive in theaters with an expected opening weekend in the $100 million to $125 million range domestically. <\/p>\n

Additionally, the live-action \u201cMoana\u201d comes out July 10, with experts predicting a huge $100 million to $200 million domestic opening.<\/p>\n

\u201cSupergirl\u201d stars Alcock, 26, as Clark Kent\u2019s super-powered cousin.<\/p>\n

The supporting cast includes Corenswet, Jason Momoa, Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham.<\/p>\n

Alcock (seen above in the film) sparked backlash for a recent Variety interview where she suggested her haters come from faceless social media users, including Christian dads. Warner Brothers<\/p>\n

During a recent interview with Variety,<\/a> Alcock pushed back against online critics and suggested the hateful comments come from faceless social media users, including conservative men.<\/p>\n

The \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d star added, \u201cBut I mean, whose opinion do you really care about? If you\u2019re pissing the right kind of people off, you\u2019re doing OK.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd are those dads gonna take their daughters to see this movie after getting insulted? I know I\u2019m not. And my daughter loved Supergirl,\u201d one person tweeted<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n

Some fans also compared Alcock to \u201cSnow White\u201d actress Rachel Zegler,<\/a> who sparked backlash last year when she described the original 1937 movie as \u201cdated,\u201d<\/a> called Prince Charming a \u201cstalker\u201d<\/a> and penned an anti-Donald Trump post<\/a> on social media.<\/p>\n

Zegler\u2019s version of the classic fairytale bombed at the box office<\/a>, which many attributed to her comments.<\/p>\n
