{"id":51,"date":"2025-08-14T00:45:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T00:45:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/51\/"},"modified":"2025-08-14T00:45:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T00:45:15","slug":"owner-of-old-post-office-on-corks-northside-sought","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/51\/","title":{"rendered":"Owner of old post office on Cork&#8217;s northside sought"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">Cork City Council is appealing for help to locate the owner of the former post office at St Luke\u2019s, which has been vacant for 17 years, as a councillor says it is \u201ca sin\u201d for it to remain empty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">A notice has been hung on the door by the council, explaining that it would like to speak with the owner to \u201cdiscuss the removal of dereliction\u201d, adding that the council \u201cwould prefer to work with the property owner to bring this derelict property back into use\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">It explained that the council \u201ccan take action through a compulsory acquisition process, where all other options have been exhausted and where Cork City Council consider action is required in the common good to bring the property back into use\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The former post office closed in August 2008, when postmistress Sheila O\u2019Flaherty retired after 28 years and the post office moved across the road to a former Ladbrokes office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Green Party councillor for the area, Oliver Moran, told  The Echo: \u201cIt\u2019s a real shame for such a brilliant location to be left empty like this.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cSt Luke\u2019s Cross is the example of the 15-minute city in Cork.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\n            \u201cThere\u2019s a vibrant economy between the businesses on the cross and people living overhead.
