Deeper layers capture the planet\u2019s earliest conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe crystallites didn\u2019t have sufficient time and conditions to grow in size,\u201d Peretyazhko said. \u201cBut the lower layers had long-standing warm water that allowed those crystallites to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Images from NASA also show evidence of ancient rivers and lakes that later gave way to dry dunes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
