{"id":514657,"date":"2026-06-02T12:39:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T12:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/514657\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T12:39:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T12:39:12","slug":"rte-spent-e277000-on-costumes-and-clothing-last-year-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/514657\/","title":{"rendered":"RT\u00c9 spent \u20ac277,000 on costumes and clothing last year \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/rte\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/rte\/\">RT\u00c9<\/a> spent more than \u20ac270,000 on wardrobe items last year, with transactions totalling \u20ac33,000 from Brown Thomas and \u20ac13,000 at Louis Copeland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">More specialised items were also purchased, with \u20ac135.76 paid to An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na, \u20ac261 at an outdoor and military clothing retailer and \u20ac434 at Party HQ.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">There were bills of about \u20ac1,000 from Hugo Boss and payments totalling just over \u20ac5,000 for items from the designer Karen Millen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Other purchases included \u20ac77 spent at Oxfam Cork and about \u20ac1,900 for products from online marketplace Temu.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Just over \u20ac1,200 was spent at the Costume Shop, about \u20ac565 at the Fabric Counter and \u20ac190 at the Art Hobby Shop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The largest retailer total was with Arnotts, where transactions came to \u20ac45,000, according to records released under FOI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A breakdown by programme shows that by far the biggest outlay came from the soap Fair City, for which nearly \u20ac43,000 was spent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Spending of \u20ac17,400 was recorded for the Late Late Toy Show and just over \u20ac10,000 for the Late Late Show itself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Also listed was \u20ac16,800 in costs from what was categorised as \u201cmarketing \u2013 creative production\u201d and about \u20ac12,250 for the Eurovision Song Contest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Other sizeable bills included \u20ac18,000 for RT\u00c9\u2019s weather services and \u20ac13,000 for the Today Show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">RT\u00c9 said the database of costs included a large volume of returns where items were found to be unsuitable for use after purchase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Overall spending totalled \u20ac440,000 but nearly \u20ac163,500 worth of items were returned, leaving a final tally of \u20ac277,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">An RT\u00c9 spokesperson said the broadcaster recycled items with wardrobe stock repurposed whenever possible to avoid new purchases.
