But after almost two decades, Google wants to change it, citing security concerns from unverified apps. The Android developer community, however, has fiercely opposed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.androidauthority.com\/google-new-sideloading-rules-android-users-need-know-3650427\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Android\u2019s new sideloading rules<\/a>, arguing\u00a0they run counter to practices that serve users\u2019 best interests. Now, a slew of popular apps have started to resist the upcoming policy and are informing users about the alternatives.<\/p>\n<p>NewPipe, one of the most popular open-source <a href=\"https:\/\/www.androidauthority.com\/watch-youtube-without-ads-3618540\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">clients for watching YouTube without ads on Android<\/a>, is starting to push back against Google\u2019s proposed changes to sideloading. While Android users will still have the option to sideload apps from developers that choose not to sign up for Google\u2019s program, installing APKs will require jumping through some hoops, including a 24-hour waiting lockout before installing \u201cunverified\u201d apps. However, those who\u2019re confident in their usage can permanently enable sideloading for all apps after waiting for the 24-hour window to elapse once.<\/p>\n<p>Along with NewPipe, avid tinkerers\u00a0on the\u00a0Android Authority team have also noticed similar warnings in other open-source\u00a0apps, including <a href=\"https:\/\/f-droid.org\/packages\/org.woheller69.whobird\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">whoBIRD<\/a>, which is popular among birdwatchers.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for being part of our community.
