M.I.A<\/a> has spoken out about being cut from Kid Cudi<\/a>\u2018s tour.<\/p>\n

Cudi, real name Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, announced last month that he had dropped the British singer and rapper from his ongoing \u2018Rebel Ragers\u2019 Tour<\/a>, saying that he was \u201cflooded with messages from fans\u201d who had complained about statements she\u2019d made while opening for him during the first two shows of his tour.<\/p>\n

M.I.A then filed a lawsuit against Cudi, suing him for for $2.8million and claiming that he knew her reputation and political stance before inviting her on the tour<\/a>. She also alleged that she was told that she could say whatever she wanted on stage.<\/p>\n

Now, M.I.A has shared more details of her side of the story on The New York Times\u2019 Popcast, in her first interview since being removed from the tour.<\/p>\n

The singer has claimed she has never spoken to Cudi about the decision, despite making attempts to communicate with him. She said she actually found out she had been dropped from the tour through her son, who saw Cudi\u2019s statement online.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t even speak to me about it,\u201d she began. \u201cHe didn\u2019t call my management, he didn\u2019t call me, he didn\u2019t talk to the crew and I even made an effort to go and talk to him and he didn\u2019t see me. Yeah, it was kind of crazy. My son is like, \u2018Hey, I heard you\u2019re not on the tour.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

M.I.A. continued: \u201cThat\u2019s how I found out, from a different state and my son called me from school. I was like, \u2018What are you talking about?\u2019 And then he sent me the post.\u201d<\/p>\n

The musician then went on to blame the media for running with an allegedly false narrative that she\u2019s a Trump supporter and Republican voter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not what\u2019s going on. That is what the media wrote as what\u2019s going on. That was the perception that was generated and fanned and algorithmized to cement a narrative,\u201d she stated. \u201cThe narrative is that is a Brown woman who is an immigrant and no matter what Americans think about that, they could never remove that.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to reports from the time, she was booed by the crowd in Dallas after saying she had been \u201ccancelled for many reasons\u201d, adding: \u201cI never thought I would be cancelled for being a brown Republican voter\u201d. Consequence<\/a>\u00a0also reports that she made some comments that were interpreted by some as being about immigrants, but the singer said it was a reference to her song \u201cILLYGIRL.\u201d<\/p>\n

From there, Cudi shared a statement claiming that he agreed with M.I.A ahead of the shows that there would not be anything offensive said at the shows, and claimed that it was \u201cvery disappointing\u201d to have to drop her from the tour.<\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upsets my fanbase,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Soon afterwards,\u00a0M.I.A took to X to respond to the decision<\/a>, seemingly walking back on her comments about voting by saying that she hasn\u2019t voted as \u201cmy team hasn\u2019t gotten visas yet\u201d.<\/p>\n

M.I.A. has received backlash for a number of controversial statements in recent years. These include comparing\u00a0InfoWars\u00a0host\u00a0Alex Jones\u2019s falsehoods about the Sandy Hook shooting to celebrities \u201cpushing\u201d COVID-19 vaccines<\/a>. She later\u00a0clarified her stance on COVID vaccines, saying she\u2019s \u201cnot really\u201d an anti-vaxxer.<\/a><\/p>\n

Ahead of the 2024 election, M.I.A. threw her weight behind Trump\u2019s campaign<\/a>, saying he would \u201cride America through the most challenging four years\u201d, adding that \u201cRFK will inherit America when God is ready to replant and rebuild it righteously\u201d.<\/p>\n

She released her new album \u2018M.I.7\u2019 earlier this year<\/a>, and announced alongside it a new clothing range that blocks 10G \u2013\u00a0the latest in her own Ohmni clothing brand<\/a>.<\/p>\n
