When it comes to the monthly streaming catalogue shake-ups, HBO Max is always one streamer that gets a lot of new movies to choose from. It\u2019s no different this month.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, that often makes it harder to choose one. So, we\u2019ve narrowed it down for you. Below, you\u2019ll find a range of genres, from horror-comedy, to drama, to adventure and more, and hopefully, one of them will fulfill your movie night goals.<\/p>\n

Here are the five best new movies on HBO Max in June.<\/p>\n

How to Make a Killing<\/p>\n

If you enjoyed seeing Glen Powell in a bunch of disguises in \u201cHit Man,\u201d I\u2019ve got some good news for you. He clearly did too, and he\u2019s in a bunch of disguises again in \u201cHow to Make a Killing<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Granted, these are far less complex. He doesn\u2019t physically transform, mostly because he\u2019s trying to blend in. See, Powell plays Beckett, a son born out of wedlock into the very wealthy Redfellow family. As a result, his mother is disowned, and they are cut off from the family fortune \u2014 at least until Beckett decides to kill the seven relatives ahead of him in line to inherit his grandfather\u2019s billions.<\/p>\n

Is it a perfect movie? No. But it\u2019s got Powell starring alongside Margaret Qualley and Jessica Henwick, both of whom steal every scene they are in. It also features a pretty funny transformation for Topher Grace, and comes from the director of \u201cEmily the Criminal.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you missed \u201cHow to Make a Killing\u201d in theaters, don\u2019t miss it on streaming.<\/p>\n

Perhaps don\u2019t watch this one with your family or any friends you don\u2019t know particularly well, but do make sure you watch it at some point.<\/p>\n

\u201cPillion\u201d is a queer, sexually-explicit sub-dom romance starring Harry Melling and Alexander Skarsg\u00e5rd, and we do mean explicit (hence the advice above). Melling plays a pretty normal suburbanite, who quickly becomes enamored with Skarsg\u00e5rd\u2019s biker character, and happily becomes his submissive.<\/p>\n

As their relationship develops, they must figure out their true compatibility, navigate through feelings of their loved ones (at least in Melling\u2019s case) and see if it all even works. <\/p>\n

Both actors are exceptionally good at what they do, and the film itself both kinky and romantic, in a way that TheWrap\u2019s William Bibbiani called \u201csomething of a miracle,\u201d<\/a> given the way relationships like these are often portrayed onscreen elsewhere.<\/p>\n

They Will Kill You<\/p>\n

Fair warning, this is a bloody one. But what\u2019s a proper horror-action-comedy without some blood?<\/p>\n

\u201cThey Will Kill You\u201d stars Zazie Beets as a young woman who has to survive the night at the Virgil, \u201ca demonic cult\u2019s mysterious and twisted death-trap of a lair, before becoming their next offering in a uniquely brazen, big screen battle of epic kills and wickedly dark humor.\u201d If you\u2019re a fan of the \u201cReady or Not\u201d films, this one will be right up your alley.<\/p>\n

According to TheWrap\u2019s Zachary Lee<\/a>, fans of anime will also enjoy this movie, arguing that that\u2019s actually \u201cthe best way\u201d to describe the film.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey Will Kill You\u201d hits HBO Max on June 12.<\/p>\n

Ready Player One<\/p>\n

With \u201cDisclosure Day\u201d hitting theaters on June 8, and a new season of \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d premiering later this month too, any fans of Spielberg and\/or Olivia Cooke should probably revisit \u201cReady Player One.\u201d Even those who aren\u2019t fans should do so too.<\/p>\n

Based on Ernest Cline\u2019s book of the same name, \u201cReady Player One\u201d takes place in 2045, in a world where virtual reality is the go-to means of living. When the creator of that virtual reality dies, he announces a contest; whoever finds a golden Easter egg takes ownership of the whole place. Thus begins a competitive race, and a very fun adventure.<\/p>\n

Spielberg does what Spielberg does best, and you\u2019re bound to have a solid time with it.<\/p>\n

\""Midsommar"\u201cMidsommar\u201d (A24)<\/p>\n

Midsommar<\/p>\n

Fair warning, \u201cMidsommar\u201d is scarring. It is decidedly not a feel-good film, so if you\u2019re trying to watch something light that will help you turn your brain off for a few hours, this is\u2026not that. But if you\u2019ve somehow missed this early entry into Florence Pugh\u2019s catalogue, and you\u2019re into horror like this, you should check it out.<\/p>\n

Pugh stars alongside Jack Reynor, as a deteriorating couple who gets sucked into a violent cult in Sweden. This comes after Pugh\u2019s character Dani has had to face the murder-suicide of her parents and sister. Not a great mix. It\u2019s hard to get into the brutality of it all without giving away anything, but it is incredibly brutal.<\/p>\n

While the story is devastating, it\u2019s also an undeniable performance from Pugh, and one that\u2019s hailed by fans and fellow actors. It took its toll on her though, and she\u2019s noted that she likely won\u2019t take a role like this again<\/a>.<\/p>\n
