\n\t\u201cMy Lady Jane\u201d star Edward Bluemel<\/a> is taking on the iconic role of Detective Hercule Poirot in a new drama series from the BBC<\/a> and BritBox<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tTitled \u201cHercule,\u201d the six-part series follows the Belgian detective \u2014 made famous by Agatha Christie<\/a> \u2014 as he solves his first-ever cases in London before becoming the world\u2019s most legendary sleuth. <\/p>\n

\n\tTouted as an \u201cintimate study of Hercule the man and an epic portrait of Britain between the wars,\u201d the show \u201ctakes a magnifying glass to three of Christie\u2019s most celebrated stories, while also charting Hercule\u2019s burgeoning friendship with Captain Arthur Hastings, his early encounters with Scotland Yard\u2019s James Japp and introducing him to one particular nemesis.\u201d Filming is set to begin this summer in Liverpool, England.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHercule\u201d is produced by Mammoth Screen, part of ITV Studios, and Agatha Christie Limited and written by Benji Walters (\u201cCode of Silence,\u201d \u201cThe Leopard\u201d). Jonny Campbell (\u201cAm I Being Unreasonable?,\u201d \u201cDracula\u201d) will direct the first two episodes and Charlie Palmer (\u201cA Woman of Substance,\u201d \u201cExtraordinary\u201d) is on board as series producer.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI feel very lucky to have been trusted with such an iconic character who has been played by so many great actors,\u201d Bluemel said in a statement. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to continue Hercule\u2019s legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAdded James Prichard, executive producer for Agatha Christie Limited: \u201cMy father had the privilege of working with David Suchet for nearly 25 years, and I now have the good fortune of being able to share my great grandmother\u2019s brilliant stories with a new generation of viewers. Edward Bluemel is an extremely talented performer and will make a great addition to the long line of actors that have played this celebrated character, aided and abetted by Benji Walters\u2019 thoughtful scripts. I cannot wait to see Edward on screen as Hercule Poirot.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlongside Prichard, executive producers include Walters and Campbell; Rebecca Durbin and Damien Timmer for Mammoth Screen; Nick Lambon for the BB; and Robert Schildhouse, Jon Farrar and Stephen Nye for BritBox. Fifth Season is handling global distribution.<\/p>\n
