Earlier this year, heavy metal band Megadeth<\/a> said goodbye with one final album. The group released its self-titled seventeenth full-length in January, and the project reached impressive positions on charts all around the world. The group is planning on touring for several more years, but according to the musicians themselves, followers should not expect new music. <\/p>\n There’s still plenty of excitement when it comes to Megadeth’s name, even at this late stage for the band. The group scores a new bestselling album on two tallies in the United Kingdom as a decades-old classic launches \u2013 and simultaneously returns to one additional list.<\/p>\n Megadeth Debuts Countdown to Extinction on Two Charts<\/p>\n Countdown to Extinction finally reaches both the Official Physical Albums<\/a> and Official Albums Sales charts<\/a> in the U.K. The set debuts at No. 90 on the ranking of the top-selling titles on any physical format \u2013 be it CD, cassette or vinyl \u2013 and No. 97 on the more general sales rundown.<\/p>\n Megadeth Scores Another Sales Win<\/p>\n Megadeth earns its seventh career placement on the Official Albums Sales chart, and despite the fact that the group has been together for decades, half of those wins have arrived in 2026 alone. In February, Megadeth’s self-titled farewell reached No. 2, tying as the troupe’s highest-ranking bestseller. In April, Hidden Treasures spent one week at No. 83.<\/p>\n Megadeth Hits the Physical Chart Again<\/p>\n Megadeth has now racked up 17 appearances on the Official Physical Albums chart \u2013 more than twice as many when compared to the Official Albums Sales register. The group first appeared on the physical-only tally more than 30 years ago, when Youthanasia arrived in November 1994. Just as is the case on the main sales tally, 2026 has been the busiest year for the act, as three titles have debuted.<\/p>\n Countdown to Extinction Marks a Career Low<\/p>\n As Countdown to Extinction reaches the Official Albums Sales chart, it brings Megadeth to a career low point. Hidden Treasures, which only launched a few months ago, held that distinction since April, when it spent a single turn at No. 83. <\/p>\n Countdown to Extinction is one of Megadeth’s worst performers on the Official Physical Albums chart as well, though one collection has peaked in a less impressive position. Countdown to Extinction: Live managed one frame in last place, at No. 100, back in the fall of 2013.<\/p>\n Countdown to Extinction Reaches a New High as It Returns<\/p>\n Over on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, Countdown to Extinction returns and soars higher than ever. The set has only landed on the list of the bestselling releases in those genres twice \u2013 including this week \u2013 and as it breaks back in at No. 17, it establishes an exciting new peak. Countdown to Extinction debuted on the roster at No. 35 in November 2012 and has been missing ever since.<\/p>\n David Ellefson Helps Countdown to Extinction<\/p>\n Countdown to Extinction appears to return thanks not to a re-release or an anniversary, but something else entirely. Former Megadeth bassist and songwriter David Ellefson spent the spring touring Europe<\/a>, playing the album in its entirety. Youthanasia lands at No. 21, four spaces beneath the new high point attached to Countdown to Extinction.<\/p>\n
