\n\tThe cast of \u201cBoy Meets World\u201d is getting honest about their experiences growing up on the set, and what happened when they moved on to the spinoff, \u201cGirl Meets World<\/a>\u201d years later.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn \u201cDoc Meets World,\u201d Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle and Rider Strong\u2019s new documentary that debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday, the group opens up about their decisions to return to the \u201cBoy Meets World\u201d universe 14 years after the initial series came to an end. \u201cGirl Meets World,\u201d led by Rowan Blanchard<\/a> and Sabrina Carpenter<\/a>, aired from 2014 to 2017 on Disney Channel.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview with Fishel, producer Frank Pace recalls working with the show\u2019s creator, Michael Jacobs. \u201cMichael was fun for me to work with because he was a challenge. He was a nightmare for me to work with because he was a challenge<\/a>. Same reason,\u201d he says before recounting the \u201cnever to be forgotten table read\u201d at the start of \u201cGirl Meets World.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFishel says she blocked it out, as Pace reminds her what allegedly happened: \u201cYou blocked it out because Michael was horrible. He just reamed all the young cast. He didn\u2019t think they upheld the tradition of \u2018Boy Meets World\u2019 and Rowan was crying, and Sabrina was crying.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tStrong, who directed 18 episodes of \u201cGirl Meets World,\u201d loved the directing part of the job. \u201cIt was so much fun to be able to be on set and work with the kids and kind of get a second chance at my own childhood,\u201d he says. But not everything was positive. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot that I owe to Michael and that I will always cherish, but I needed to cut him out of my life, let him know that I don\u2019t condone his behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFishel also explains that early on in the process, she told Jacobs that she felt very strongly about the storylines of \u201cGirl Meets World,\u201d seeing the show as a huge opportunity to focus on female friendships.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI said, \u2018If we\u2019re going to do a show that\u2019s about a 12-year-old girl, I don\u2019t want the focus to be about a relationship.\u2019 I was a 12-year-old girl who spent my entire life focused on relationships. And it didn\u2019t do anything for me. That didn\u2019t get me anywhere,\u201d she recalls, getting choked up. \u201cIt\u2019s not a good lesson. It\u2019s not like what I would\u2019ve wanted for myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJacobs told Fishlel that the real love story would be between the friendship between Carpenter and Rowan\u2019s characters. Then the pilot happened, showing the lead character stumble into a boy\u2019s lap, and the rest was history.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEventually, I got the courage to say something, and I started pushing back, and I started confronting Michael and I started being very vocal,\u201d says Fishel. \u201cThat did not go over well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDoc Meets World\u201d follows Fishel, Friedle and Strong as they reunited for the \u201cPod Meets World\u201d podcast in 2022 and began looking back at their journeys of growing up on a sitcom<\/a>. The group then took the podcast on the road with a nationwide tour.
