{"id":526991,"date":"2026-06-09T22:14:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T22:14:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/526991\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T22:14:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T22:14:10","slug":"oh-thank-god-ios-27-fixes-the-liquid-glass-optical-illusion-that-broke-my-brain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/526991\/","title":{"rendered":"Oh, Thank God: iOS 27 Fixes the Liquid Glass Optical Illusion That Broke My Brain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Someone at Apple must have read my rant.<\/p>\n<p>When <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/liquid-glass-on-ios-26-is-here-to-stay-whether-you-like-it-or-not-2000658876\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">iOS 26<\/a> rolled out last September, I reported on <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/this-liquid-glass-optical-illusion-on-ios-26-is-driving-me-insane-2000659413\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an optical illusion caused by the specular highlights<\/a> in the corners of app icons, revamped with the reflective and shimmering properties of Liquid Glass, that made them look crooked.<\/p>\n<p>The slanting icons have been bugging my eyes for nearly nine months, frustrating me every time I unlock my iPhone to the home screen. Countless <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/ios\/comments\/1nhvlsh\/removed_by_moderator\/?utm_source=embedv2&amp;utm_medium=post_embed&amp;utm_content=action_bar&amp;embed_host_url=https%3A%2F%2Fgizmodo.com%2Fthis-liquid-glass-optical-illusion-on-ios-26-is-driving-me-insane-2000659413\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reddit users<\/a> messaged and emailed me about the same problem. Clearly, I wasn\u2019t the only one seeing things.<\/p>\n<p>I just installed the iOS 27 developer beta that dropped after the WWDC 2026 keynote yesterday, and I\u2019m happy to report that Apple has fixed the optical illusion. The specular highlights are gone and no longer glimmer as you rotate your iPhone and view it from different angles. App icons still have some highlights around the edges\u2014now at the top and bottom\u2014but they no longer make the icons lean toward the left. Sanity prevails.<\/p>\n<p>At the top of this story, you can see how the icons look when they\u2019re set to \u201cClear\u201d and below you can find the icons set to the \u201cDefault.\u201d See? The main improvement is a Liquid Glass slider within the Settings app that lets you adjust how clear or tinted you want the visual effect to look.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2000768857\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Apple-iOS-Liquid-Glass-Update.jpg\" alt=\"Apple iOS Liquid Glass Update\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\"  \/>The new Liquid Glass slider in iOS 27. \u00a9 Raymond Wong \/ Gizmodo <\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m elated to see the optical illusion fixed, but at the same time I should caution that this is only the first iOS 27 developer beta and Apple could change things over the course of the beta period before the final software is released in the fall.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s to hoping.
