\n\tCraig Ferguson<\/a>, the former host of CBS\u2019 \u201cThe Late Late Show,\u201d recently told \u201cObsessed: The Podcast\u201d <\/a>that he was glad he got out of the late-night game before Donald Trump<\/a> became president.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t know how I would have handled it. I\u2019m glad I didn\u2019t have to, to be honest,\u201d Ferguson admitted. \u201cI\u2019ve thought about it before. It\u2019s kind of impossible to say.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added, \u201cI like to think I would somehow have managed to navigate through it, but I\u2019m not sure I would have.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTrump has waged an all-out war against late-night television in his second term, often taking to Truth Social to call for the heads<\/a> of hosts like Stephen Colbert<\/a> and Jimmy Kimmel<\/a>. More than any other names in the space, Colbert and Kimmel have essentially turned their shows into political soapboxes on which they relentlessly jab at Trump and his administration.<\/p>\n

\n\tFerguson left \u201cThe Late Late Show\u201d in December 2014, making way for James Corden to take over as host. Trump was elected president two years later in 2016. Ferguson explained that he originally planned to exit the show a bit earlier, but CBS offered to sweeten his deal if he stuck around longer.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cComedy, like everything else in life, really is about timing,\u201d he explained. \u201cI actually was gonna leave like three years or something before I actually left, but you know, they throw a bit of money at you, you stay a little longer, and then it\u2019s like, \u2018All right, enough\u2019s enough,\u2019 but I really don\u2019t know how I would have handled it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLate-night talent like Colbert and Kimmel have become symbols of resistance in the media against the Trump administration, but Ferguson said he wouldn\u2019t have gone that direction with his show, nor would he have tried to associate himself with the other late-night hosts.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI remember saying that at the time, \u2018I\u2019m not part of this,\u2019\u201d Ferguson recalled. \u201cI used to say on the show, \u2018This is not a late-night talk show. I\u2019m not a late-night talk show host.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added that while hosting, he never felt his \u201cLate Late Show\u201d was \u201can archetype like the others.\u201d<\/p>\n
