\n\t\u201cToy Story 5<\/a>\u201d has finally been unveiled to members of the film press, and it appears Pixar<\/a>\u2018s long-running animated franchise remains in top form after 30 years. The latest sequel is being called \u201cemotional, funny, genuinely warm, and perfect in every way\u201d in rave first reactions.<\/p>\n

\n\tFilm critic Scott Menzel posted a glowing review on X<\/a>. He wrote that the fifth \u201cToy Story\u201d film \u201cranks right alongside the first three films, delivering a perfect blend of humor, heart, and that signature Pixar magic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018Toy Story 5\u2019 is a wonderfully heartfelt return to form for Pixar Animation Studios and a reminder of why the \u2018Toy Story\u2019 franchise remains one of the greatest film series ever made,\u201d read Menzel\u2019s review. \u201cEmotional, hilarious, and genuinely moving, \u2018Toy Story 5\u2019 may very well end up being one of the best films of 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Movie Podcast\u201d host Daniel Baptista also loved the film. He wrote on X <\/a>that watching \u201cToy Story 5\u201d was a \u201cgeneration-defining experience,\u201d adding that the film delivered \u201cexactly the story we need right now.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPixar once again delivers a meaningful, moving, and masterful must-see movie,\u201d he continued. \u201cConan as Smarty Pants is an all-time great \u2018TS\u2019 character. This is Jessie\u2019s story, and our sheriff shines.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn her own X review<\/a>, Variety senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay wrote, \u201c\u2018Toy Story 5\u2019 is a magical and pure perfection. It is a fantastic entry into the franchise. Jessie finally gets the story she deserves! It\u2019s emotional, funny, genuinely warm, and perfect in every way. Loved the new addition of characters. I laughed and cried at how marvelous \u2018Toy Story 5\u2019 is.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCollider editor Meredith Loftus echoed the praise<\/a>. She wrote on X, \u201c\u2018Toy Story 5\u2019 hit me in places I was unprepared for! Exploring the divide between technology and toys through Jessie results in a deeply profound, moving story that had me in a puddle of tears. I put it up there with \u2018Toy Story\u2019 2 & 3. It\u2019s that excellent!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cToy Story 5\u201d finds Woody reuniting with Buzz Lightyear and the gang after the events of \u201cToy Story 4,\u201d which ended with Woody leaving the group to team up with Bo Peep to help abandoned toys find new owners. Buzz and Jessie became the new leaders of Bonnie\u2019s playroom in Woody\u2019s absence, but the emergence of an iPad-like tablet named Lilypad forces the gang back together for a new adventure. Tom Hanks<\/a>, Tim Allen<\/a> and Joan Cusack return to their beloved roles opposite newcomers such as Greta Lee, Conan O\u2019Brien and more.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview<\/a> with Variety, \u201cToy Story 5\u201d director Andrew Stanton spoke about introducing Apple-influenced technology into the franchise.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c[It\u2019s a villain] to the toys because they\u2019re understandably intimidated, but it\u2019s just the next phase in Bonnie\u2019s life,\u201d Stanton said. \u201cLilypad is built like a toy in the sense that she wants to help the kid go forward, but she\u2019s got very different skills and zero experience, whereas Jessie has nothing but experience and is probably unprepared for what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tStanton, a Pixar legend and the Oscar-winning director behind \u201cWall-E\u201d and \u201cFinding Nemo,\u201d is behind the camera for the first time of a \u201cToy Story\u201d movie with this fifth installment. Previously, Stanton worked on the stories and scripts for all four \u201cToy Story\u201d movies.<\/p>\n
