{"id":528419,"date":"2026-06-10T17:22:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T17:22:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/528419\/"},"modified":"2026-06-10T17:22:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T17:22:15","slug":"the-shards-ryan-murphy-bret-easton-ellis-fx-show-gets-premiere-date","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/528419\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;The Shards&#8217;: Ryan Murphy, Bret Easton Ellis FX Show Gets Premiere Date"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe late summer TV calendar is getting a little more jagged: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/fx\/\" id=\"auto-tag_fx_1\" data-tag=\"fx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FX<\/a> has set a premiere date for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/the-shards\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-shards_1\" data-tag=\"the-shards\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Shards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe drama, based on a novel by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/bret-easton-ellis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bret-easton-ellis_1\" data-tag=\"bret-easton-ellis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bret Easton Ellis<\/a> and executive produced by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/ryan-murphy\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ryan-murphy_1\" data-tag=\"ryan-murphy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Murphy<\/a>, is set to debut Aug. 5 on FX and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/hulu\/\" id=\"auto-tag_hulu_1\" data-tag=\"hulu\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hulu<\/a>. The premiere date caps a winding road for The Shards, which Ellis initially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/ryan-murphy-bret-easton-ellis-the-shards-hbo-1236133409\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">developed at HBO<\/a> in 2024. It stalled there before Murphy and FX <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/ryan-murphy-fx-the-shards-bret-easton-ellis-1236221840\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rescued it<\/a> in May 2025; a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/fx-the-shards-series-ryan-murphy-bret-easton-ellis-1236317500\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">series order<\/a> followed two months later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tEllis published The Shards in print form in 2023 after first releasing it as a serialized audiobook on his podcast. The novel is set in 1980s Los Angeles and takes inspiration from Ellis\u2019 high school days. Here\u2019s how FX describes it: \u201cThe series follows a group of privileged high school seniors at an elite prep school as they navigate identity, sex, jealousy, obsession and the dangers lurking beneath the surface of American adolescence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cAt its center is Bret (Igby Rigney), an aspiring writer and keenly observant teenager whose reality begins to unravel with the arrival of a mysterious and magnetic new student, Robert Mallory (Homer Gere). Transferring in just before his senior year, Robert\u2019s appearance coincides with the growing terror of The Trawler, a serial killer targeting teenagers across the city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe cast also includes Kaia Gerber, Hayes Warner, Graham Campbell, Evan Rachel Wood, Wes Bentley and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/fx-the-shards-jordan-roth-1236416836\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jordan Roth<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t20th Television is producing The Shards.
