Thalberg Memorial Award, following a vote by its Board of Governors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe statuettes will be presented at the Academy\u2019s 17th Governors Awards on Nov. 15, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor Close and Scott, the recognition arrives as a long-overdue embrace from an Academy that has nominated each of them repeatedly without ever handing over a competitive prize. Close holds eight acting nominations and no wins, tied with the late Peter O\u2019Toole for the most acting nominations without a win in Oscar history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tScott has three directing nominations and a producing nod for best picture, and likewise has never taken home a statuette, despite his 2000 action epic \u201cGladiator\u201d winning five Oscars, including best picture. The honorary recognition finally closes that gap for two of the industry\u2019s most revered artists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe Academy\u2019s Board of Governors is thrilled to present this year\u2019s Governors Awards to five remarkable individuals whose groundbreaking work has forever shaped the art of filmmaking,\u201d said Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor. \u201cThroughout her extraordinary body of work, Glenn Close\u2019s unparalleled emotional range has brought to life some of the most complex characters in cinema. Floyd Norman is the legendary animator who has broken barriers and inspired generations of artists over his remarkable career. Sir Ridley Scott is a true visionary whose decades-long legacy has left an immeasurable impact on global cinema and culture. Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler play a central role in American independent cinema, championing bold, ambitious and distinctive storytelling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tClose\u2019s career spans more than five decades and more than 100 film credits. Her eight nominations began with her feature debut in the drama \u201cThe World According to Garp\u201d and continued with \u201cThe Big Chill,\u201d \u201cThe Natural,\u201d \u201cFatal Attraction,\u201d \u201cDangerous Liaisons,\u201d \u201cAlbert Nobbs,\u201d \u201cThe Wife\u201d and \u201cHillbilly Elegy.\u201d Her additional notable credits include \u201cJagged Edge,\u201d \u201cReversal of Fortune,\u201d \u201cHamlet,\u201d \u201c101 Dalmatians,\u201d \u201cMars Attacks!,\u201d \u201cAir Force One,\u201d \u201cThe Stepford Wives\u201d and \u201cWake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.\u201d This year, she starred in Ryan Murphy\u2019s darkly comedic Hulu series \u201cAll\u2019s Fair.\u201d Later this year she will be seen in the Spanish-language drama \u201cLa Bola Negra,\u201d which won the best director prize at Cannes, where it was acquired by Netflix, as well as the YA adaptation \u201cThe Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tScott is the eighth-highest-grossing director of all time, with his films totaling $5 billion worldwide. The British filmmaker, whose career stretches nearly six decades, earned directing nominations for \u201cThelma &amp; Louise,\u201d \u201cGladiator\u201d and \u201cBlack Hawk Down,\u201d plus a best picture nomination as a producer for the space survival dramedy \u201cThe Martian.\u201d His filmography includes sci-fi and action classics such as \u201cAlien,\u201d \u201cBlade Runner\u201d and \u201cPrometheus,\u201d along with sweeping epics and dramas like \u201cKingdom of Heaven,\u201d \u201cAmerican Gangster,\u201d \u201cAll the Money in the World,\u201d \u201cHouse of Gucci,\u201d \u201cThe Last Duel\u201d and \u201cNapoleon.\u201d His next film will be an adaptation of the apocalyptic sci-fi novel \u201cThe Dog Stars,\u201d starring Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin, for 20th Century Studios. He was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire in 2024 for his services to the British film industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNorman, an animator and storyboard artist, began his 65-year career at Walt Disney Animation Studios in 1956, becoming the studio\u2019s first Black animator. His first Disney feature was the 1959 classic \u201cSleeping Beauty,\u201d and he went on to contribute to \u201cThe Sword in the Stone,\u201d \u201cMary Poppins,\u201d \u201cThe Jungle Book\u201d and \u201cRobin Hood,\u201d along with the short films \u201cDonald in Mathmagic Land,\u201d \u201cGoliath II\u201d and \u201cWinnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree.\u201d His other notable credits include \u201cThe Hunchback of Notre Dame,\u201d \u201cMulan,\u201d \u201cToy Story 2\u201d and \u201cMonsters, Inc.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tVachon and Koffler founded the New York-based independent production company Killer Films in 1995. Their credits together include the musical \u201cHedwig and the Angry Inch,\u201d \u201cOne Hour Photo,\u201d \u201cCamp,\u201d \u201cThe Company,\u201d \u201cThe Notorious Bettie Page,\u201d \u201cMay December\u201d and \u201cMaterialists.\u201d The pair earned a best picture nomination for Celine Song\u2019s debut drama \u201cPast Lives\u201d in 2024.
