(Atlanta News First) — A new outdoor naloxone kiosk was installed in Little Five Points as Georgia advocates push to make the overdose-reversal drug easier to access at any hour and reduce barriers that can delay help.

The kiosk outside Little Five Points Pharmacy was stocked with Narcan and fentanyl test strips and dedicated to Zach Elliott, his mother said.

“This is my son, Zach Elliott. Zach died of an opiate overdose on May 1, 2011. He was 21,” Robin Elliott said.

Elliott signed her son’s name and placed it inside the kiosk where anyone who opens this door will see it.

“Time does not heal all wounds. It does soften the edges,” she said.

Georgia Overdose Prevention said the kiosk is part of a wider statewide effort to expand low-barrier access to naloxone, including a live “Naloxone Map” showing 121 access points across Georgia, with more than 40 offering 24-hour access.

“I’m in this business and if it’s hard for me to find, how hard would it be for someone in crisis to find?” said Andy Gish, executive director of Georgia Overdose Prevention.

Ira Katz, the pharmacist at Little Five Points Pharmacy, said naloxone can buy time in an overdose and people should still call 911. He added that Georgians are protected by law when they call for help.

“I’ve saved many lives administering the Narcan here. Hundreds of lives have been saved because of what we’ve been doing over the years,” Katz said. “It’s an emotional thing. It really is. It’s a special thing.”

Georgia Overdose Prevention said it asks people to scan a QR code after administering naloxone, and the organization believes more than 15,000 people have been helped in the last 12 years — though that count reflects only cases reported back.

Copyright 2026 WANF.
