href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Little_Mermaid\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Little Mermaid<\/a> turn into stardust instead of seafoam?<\/p>\n<p>    It would seem so in this beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/universe\/stories\/quick-reads\/decoding-nebulae\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nebula<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>    The <a href=\"http:\/\/app.astrobin.com\/i\/ve35wq\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">featured image<\/a> shows the <a href=\"https:\/\/apod.nasa.gov\/apod\/ap240918.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mermaid Nebula<\/a>, also known as the Betta Fish Nebula, which is part of the G296.5+10.0 <a href=\"https:\/\/imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov\/science\/objects\/supernova_remnants.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Supernova Remnant<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>    The blue color visible here originates from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Doubly_ionized_oxygen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">doubly ionized oxygen (OIII)<\/a>, while the deep red is emitted by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hydrogen-alpha\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hydrogen gas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t  <a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/mnras\/article\/528\/2\/2095\/7511133\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Estimated<\/a> to be located a few thousand light-years away and about 10,000 years old, this nebula was formed when a massive star <a href=\"https:\/\/svs.gsfc.nasa.gov\/20413\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">exploded as a supernova<\/a>.<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t  It left behind a <a href=\"https:\/\/images.unsplash.com\/photo-1743046678527-b9d3f7db5eae\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">peculiar<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/mission\/hubble\/science\/science-behind-the-discoveries\/hubble-pulsars\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pulsar<\/a>, a young radio-quiet neutron star that spins around about <a href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.1086\/340640\/pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">twice every second<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>    The bright stars shown in the image are unassociated with the nebula.<br \/>\n    The pulsar can be detected in the <a href=\"https:\/\/chandra.harvard.edu\/field_guide.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">X-rays<\/a> but it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aanda.org\/articles\/aa\/pdf\/2011\/01\/aa14982-10.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">does not<\/a> have a confirmed detection in the optical (<a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/ems\/09_visiblelight\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">visible light<\/a>) so far.<\/p>\n<p>    As a result, the pulsar
