A Dublin football club has paid tribute to a “highly respected coach” who sadly passed away this week.<\/p>\n
Peter Keating passed away at the Mater Hospital on Tuesday. And his former club Sandyhill Shangan FC, where he coached from 2023 to 2025, paid tribute to him with a balloon-release ceremony on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n
The club paid a touching tribute to Peter, saying his “dedication, friendship, and contribution to football will be remembered by everyone”. The club said: “Folks, we were deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Peter Keating, who passed away on Tuesday, 9th June 2026. Peter was part of our coaching team from 2023 to 2025, working alongside his son Peter Keating, Robbie Farrell, and Glenn Paget.<\/p>\n
“Together, they enjoyed tremendous success, securing promotion from Saturday Major 1D to 1C during the 2023\/24 season. The following season, 2024\/25, the team went on to win the league, a fantastic achievement that reflected the hard work, dedication, and commitment of everyone involved.<\/p>\n
“Peter played an important role in that success and was highly respected by players, coaches, and supporters alike. Peter was a well-recognised and highly respected coach within the football community.<\/p>\n
“Throughout his coaching career, he helped develop countless young players and shared his knowledge and passion for the game wherever he went. Peter was involved with the St. Kevin\u2019s Boys youth setup before going on to coach at Ballymun United, Sandyhill Shangan FC, and most recently Tolka Rovers.<\/p>\n
“Such was his love for the game and his commitment to coaching that he had planned to return to Sandyhill for the coming season. Peter\u2019s dedication, friendship, and contribution to football will be remembered by everyone who had the privilege of working with him. He was a valued member of our football community, and his loss will be felt deeply by all who knew him.<\/p>\n
“On behalf of everyone at Sandyhill Shangan FC, we extend our deepest sympathies to Peter\u2019s family, friends, fellow coaches, and all who mourn his passing. Rest in Peace, Peter.”<\/p>\n
Peter’s death notice reads that he passed “peacefully at the Mater Hospital, surrounded by his loving family”. It read: “Beloved husband of Florrie and cherished father of Julianne, Peter, Deborah, Andrea and Jordan.<\/p>\n
“Predeceased by his father Peter and his brother Kerion. Peter will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his wife, children, Mother Peggy, grandchildren Niamh, Brooke, Ella, Harlan, Peyton, Ralph, Ryder, Iyla, Daphne, Dahila, Bodhi, and Miller, sons-in-law Dean, Karl and Adam, daughters-in-law Kelly and Stacey, sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours, friends and all who knew and loved him.<\/p>\n
“May he Rest in Peace.” Peter’s funeral will be at Christ the King Church in Cabra at 1pm.<\/p>\n
