(WFFT) — Parkview Health has expanded its DNA Insights program, allowing the public to participate in no-cost genetic screening and contribute to health research. This initiative, in partnership with Helix, aims to help individuals understand their genetic health risks and advance personalized medicine.

Previously limited to Parkview patients and employees, DNA Insights is now open to anyone 18 or older with a Parkview MyChart account. Parkview hopes to enroll 100,000 participants over the next five years. “Integrating genetic information into everyday care is the future of medicine,” said Dr. Michael Mirro, Parkview’s chief academic research officer.

Participants will complete an online consent form, visit a Parkview lab for a blood draw, and receive genetic screening for hereditary cancers and high cholesterol risks. About 1-2% of participants may discover a genetic variant indicating risk for some conditions. Those with positive results can receive a no-cost counseling session with a Parkview genetic counselor.

Dr. Jamie L. Renbarger, associate chief of research and precision health, said, “DNA Insights is a powerful example of how research and innovation come together to directly benefit our community.”

To learn more or enroll, visit parkview.com/DNAInsights.

FORT WAYNE, Ind.
