Now that Henry Cavill<\/a>\u2018s Wolverine variant has officially received its own Marvel action figure<\/a>, it wouldn\u2019t be a surprise if Marvel Studios decided to bring him back for Avengers: Secret Wars<\/a>. This would make sense, especially when the upcoming 2027 film is still expected to tackle the multiverse.<\/p>\n

Many MCU fans were definitely delighted by his unexpected appearance in 2024\u2019s Deadpool & Wolverine, after several years of being fancast for the iconic character. That\u2019s why I don\u2019t doubt that another Cavillrine cameo in Secret Wars would once again be welcome by fans. However, if you\u2019re wishing for Cavill\u2019s permanent return as Wolverine, that might no longer be possible anymore, considering the recent rumors surrounding the MCU\u2019s new X-Men<\/a> team.<\/p>\n

Why Henry Cavill\u2019s Wolverine return won\u2019t work with the MCU\u2019s new X-Men team?<\/p>\n

As development on Marvel Studios\u2019 untitled X-Men movie continues, we already have a rough idea of the creative team\u2019s vision for the project. Based on the recent casting rumors, it seems like the studio is looking to enlist a younger cast to carry on the MCU\u2019s X-Men franchise. Because of this, Cavill\u2019s Wolverine variant just wouldn\u2019t fit in with the new version of the beloved Marvel team due to his age.<\/p>\n

Even though Wolverine is significantly older than the rest of the X-Men members in the comics, The Witcher star\u2019s possible casting would eventually lead him to age out of the role. By the time the first X-Men MCU movie comes out, Cavill will be in his late 40s. If the goal is to prolong the longevity of the franchise, casting an actor in their 20s or early 30s for Wolverine would be the right call for Marvel Studios. This would make perfect sense, especially when they\u2019ve already done this with Hugh Jackman before. The Greatest Showman star was only 31 years old when he first played the iconic hero in the 2000 film X-Men.<\/p>\n

However, even though Cavill won\u2019t permanently be the Wolverine, this doesn\u2019t necessarily mean that he shouldn\u2019t return in the MCU. He could still play another Marvel character in future projects, including villain roles.
