Although he has born in the UK, his parents are from County Wexford and he is always talking about his affection for his ancestral homeland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He explores his love for Irish <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dublinlive.ie\/all-about\/food\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">food<\/a> in his <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dublinlive.ie\/all-about\/itv\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">TV<\/a> series Dermot&#8217;s Taste of Ireland, and he admitted there is one particular area of the country where he would love to live.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Dermot, 53, was born in Colchester in England but has been returning on a regular basis over the last five decades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">There are two coastal areas less than an hour south of <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dublinlive.ie\/all-about\/dublin\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Dublin<\/a> which the popular presenter described as &#8216;bucket-list&#8217; destinations for him to live one day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Speaking to <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/lifestyle\/travel\/dermot-oleary-guide-to-ireland-b1280568.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">the Evening Standard<\/a>, he was asked which part of Ireland he would like to live in.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Dalkey Island\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/0_Dalkey-Island-Co-Dublin.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"Dermot said he would love to live in Dalkey\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">Dermot said he would love to live in Dalkey(Image: Getty Images\/iStockphoto)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Dermot responded: &#8220;Pretty much all of Dublin city centre; I love the Georgian architecture. And then south of Dublin, in beautiful coastal areas like <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dublinlive.ie\/all-about\/dalkey\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Dalkey<\/a> and <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dublinlive.ie\/all-about\/killiney\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Killiney<\/a>, there are some stunning houses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;As a massive sea person, it&#8217;s a bucket list item for me to live right on the coast.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The former X Factor judge <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dublinlive.ie\/news\/celebs\/soccer-aids-dermot-olearys-happiest-34032761\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">previously revealed how a &#8220;gorgeous&#8221; beach around two hours from Dublin<\/a> is where he is &#8220;happiest&#8221;. The This Morning presenter spent most summers during his childhood in County Wexford and the area has a special place in his heart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Of all those places he visited, Curracloe beach is seemingly a place he remembers with fondness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Speaking in an interview with the Guardian, Dermot was asked where he was happiest. He replied: &#8220;On Curracloe beach with my family in Wexford, circa 1980, after a swim.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">During a recent interview with travel journalist Holly Rubenstein on The Travel Diaries podcast, Dermot elaborated on his love for the beach.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Dermot O'Leary\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/0_ITV.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"Dermot is proud of his Irish heritage\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">Dermot is proud of his Irish heritage(Image: ITV)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He explained: &#8220;It was Ireland, specifically Wexford, and these gorgeous beaches of Curracloe which are so indelible on me and so formative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;It&#8217;s banana sandwiches on the beaches, it&#8217;s chocolate digestives. It&#8217;s familiar and alien at the same time. The ice creams are a bit different, and the chocolate is a bit different and the crisps are a bit different.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;It was relatively run of the mill stuff, but even now, I&#8217;m never happier than when I&#8217;m in a foreign supermarket.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Dermot&#8217;s Taste of Ireland sees him embark on a food odyssey across Ireland, sampling the cuisine of his childhood while also having a go at making some iconic dishes himself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">As well as Dublin, Dermot visits County Wexford, Kinsale, <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dublinlive.ie\/all-about\/cork\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Cork<\/a> as well as a number of places in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Dermot&#8217;s Taste of Ireland is on ITV from 12pm to 12.30pm today (Saturday, June 13).
