While The Conjuring: Last Rites<\/strong> breaks records at the box office<\/a>, both for The Conjuring Universe and the horror genre at large, Variety reports<\/a> this afternoon that a previously announced The Conjuring television series is officially moving forward at HBO Max<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Nancy Won<\/strong> (\u201cSupernatural,\u201d \u201cJessica Jones\u201d) will serve as the project\u2019s showrunner, writer and executive producer, Variety reports. Peter Cameron<\/strong> (\u201cWerewolf by Night\u201d) and Cameron Squires<\/strong> (\u201cWandaVision\u201d) have also boarded the series as writers.<\/p>\n

James Wan\u2019s<\/strong> Atomic Monster Productions and Peter Safran\u2019s<\/strong> The Safran Company will produce the franchise\u2019s very first small screen project, in association with WBTV.<\/p>\n

The series will \u201ccontinue the story established in the feature films.\u201d The Conjuring: Last Rites was billed as the final installment in the franchise universe\u2019s \u201cPhase One,\u201d with the film\u2019s massive box office success ensuring that the franchise isn\u2019t going anywhere any time soon.<\/p>\n

The Conjuring\u00a0films are based on the real-life case files of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by\u00a0Patrick Wilson\u00a0and\u00a0Vera Farmiga\u00a0respectively.<\/p>\n

There are currently nine films in The Conjuring\u00a0universe \u2014\u00a0The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun 2, and this year\u2019s The Conjuring: Last Rites.<\/p>\n
