Earlier this year, the chipmaker said it could raise up to $25 billion through issuance of unsecured commercial paper notes. The debt sale could end up closer to $25 billion, said the sources, who asked not to be named because the numbers aren&#8217;t public. <\/p>\n<p>Nvidia shares rose 3,5% on Monday and are up about 14% this year. <\/p>\n<p>The chipmaker is the latest tech company tied to the artificial intelligence trade to tap the capital markets. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/GOOGL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alphabet<\/a> announced plans earlier this month to raise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/06\/05\/alphabet-ai-data-center-financing.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$85 billion<\/a> in equity-related offerings after securing more than $55 billion in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/10\/alphabet-set-to-raise-over-30-billion-in-global-debt-sale-sources.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fresh debt<\/a>\u00a0since November. And last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SMCI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Super Micro<\/a> announced $7 billion in equity-related <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/06\/09\/super-micro-stock-tumbles-on-7-billion-financing-plans.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">financing deals<\/a> to help to cover the cost of hardware component purchases.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AMZN\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon<\/a>, meanwhile, raised roughly $54 billion in debt earlier this year in U.S. and European bond sales, and announced plans last week to raise about $10 billion in a Canadian debt sale<\/p>\n<p>Nvidia has about $7.5 billion in long-term debt and another $1 billion in short-term debt. In its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1045810\/000119312521192149\/d80739d8k.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">last debt raise<\/a> in 2021, Nvidia brought in $5 billion, with notes maturing as late as 2031. But Nvidia was a much smaller company then, generating revenue in fiscal 2022 of about $27 billion, compared to sales of $216 billion in fiscal 2026. <\/p>\n<p>The launch of OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT in late 2022 was a major catalyst for Nvidia&#8217;s historic rate of growth that followed, as AI model companies and hyperscalers started gobbling up as many of the company&#8217;s graphics processing units as they could. <\/p>\n<p>An Nvidia spokesperson said that the company intends to use the proceeds from the offering for general corporate purposes, including repayment and refinancing of existing debt. <\/p>\n<p>Nvidia announced an aggressive capital return program in May, when it raised its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/06\/03\/nvidias-big-dividend-hike-could-pave-the-way-for-higher-payouts-who-may-be-next.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dividend<\/a> from a penny a share to 25 cents and said it planned to repurchase $80 billion in shares.
