SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WAND) – Police said a rural Shelbyville man will face charges after suffering an apparent mental health crisis and beating his father on Monday, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The sheriff’s office told WAND News it was called at 8:45 a.m. Monday to a home along County Highway 36 in Shelbyville.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Copeland Road, 1800 East, directly south of Shelbyville, was closed for much of the afternoon. It has since reopened.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police said 31-year-old Travis Hennings had beaten his father inside the home and pointed a gun at his mother. The sheriff’s office said Hennings’ mother managed to run out of the house and call 911 while the father was still inside.<\/p>\n
The sheriff said the situation was not a hostage situation, but instead called it a mental health situation involving domestic violence.<\/p>\n
Hennings eventually gave himself up around 3:30 p.m. Monday and came out of the home. He was then taken to the hospital for treatment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Hennings is expected to be charged for aggravated domestic battery.\u00a0<\/p>\n
