\n\tJust before Disney<\/a> breaks all kinds of records this weekend with Pixar\u2019s Toy Story 5, it can celebrate taking 20th Century Studios<\/a>\u2018 The Devil Wears Prada<\/a> franchise past the $1 billion mark.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe sequel, now in its seventh week, counts $676 million at the global box office, with $217.9M from domestic alone. The pic before global P&A cost $100M to make. The original 2006 comedy based on Lauren Weisberger\u2019s New York Times bestselling novel finaled at $326.5M in reported currency.<\/p>\n

\n\tNostalgia, especially when well done a second time around, means mountains at the box office and a tremendous amount to moviegoers. Devil Wears Prada was always cherished by female moviegoers, and part 2 here brought together the series original director David Frankel, scribe Aline Brosh McKenna and stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt. Disney, ever the iconoclast tentpole studio, opted not to open summer with a Marvel movie, instead releasing Devil Wears Prada 2 on May 1 in the U.S. to an enormous $233M worldwide and $76.7M domestic \u2014 both franchise highs.<\/p>\n

\n\tWithin the sequel\u2019s first nine days of release stateside, it surpassed the lifetime of the first movie which finale at $124.7M. <\/p>\n

\n\tDevil Wears Prada 2 is the No. 4 MPA global release YTD; Disney has released three of the top six films on that list. Stateside, it\u2019s the No. 4 domestic release YTD where Disney owns three of the top seven. With an offshore gross of $458.1M, Devil Wears Prada 2 is the No. 3 MPA International release YTD. The original movie\u2019s offshore gross was $201.8M in reported dollars.<\/p>\n

\n\tWith $37.3M in Italy, the pic is the No. 1 non-local movie in that territory. That\u2019s also the sequel\u2019s second-highest territory behind the UK ($45.8M). Devil Wears Prada 2 is also the second non-local release of 2026 to date in Australia ($29.5M), Japan ($31.9M) and Brazil ($33.2M).<\/p>\n

\n\tGermany is the third highest-grossing territory with $33.2M.
