Cork has had a singing mayor before – so why not singing Garda\u00ed? This week, at least one officer was moved to quote legendary Manchester band Oasis after yet another uninsured E-motorbike was seized on the streets of Cork.<\/strong><\/p>\n The E-motorbike, a Coswheel CT20 2.0, falls into a category that requires registration, a licence and insurance. Unfortunately for the rider, they had none of these, and so the motorbike was swiftly seized – with Garda\u00ed saying on social media: “She\u2019s Electric\u2026 But She\u2019s Also Seized.”<\/p>\n The Coswheel CT20 2.0, which retails for around \u20ac2,000, can reach speeds of 45km\/h, so while it’s not quite supersonic, it’s still a powerful little two-wheeler – and the rider will no doubt be looking back in anger at their decision to flout the rules.<\/p>\n Garda\u00ed<\/a> added: “As a certain Oasis song goes, \u201cShe\u2019s Electric\u201d\u2026 and she certainly was. Unfortunately, being electric doesn\u2019t exempt a vehicle from the rules of the road.<\/p>\n “A reminder to anyone considering taking an e-motorbike on public roads: check the legal requirements before setting off. If your vehicle requires insurance, registration and a licence, you\u2019ll need all three.”<\/p>\n Whether the rider will get to enjoy a Gallagher-style reunion with their bike remains to be seen. It’s far from the first vehicle of its kind to be taken into Garda custody, with the dangers of E-bikes and E-scooters the subject of growing outcry<\/a> in recent months.<\/p>\n In February, a throttle-powered E-moped was stopped after Garda\u00ed spotted a driver – with a pillion passenger – without any protective equipment. This is itself against the rules – but the officer quickly uncovered a litany of other offences, with the driver also lacking registration, tax, insurance and a driving licence.<\/p>\n The same month, a group of E-bike – or E-scrambler – riders were filmed popping wheelies in near-peak traffic<\/a> on Cork’s busiest road.<\/p>\n With this latest seizure, Garda\u00ed reiterated that there’s no maybe about it – and that you definitely have to follow the rules if you’re going to get yourself an E-bike.<\/p>\n
