{"id":54266,"date":"2025-09-10T02:24:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T02:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/54266\/"},"modified":"2025-09-10T02:24:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T02:24:09","slug":"leinster-add-south-african-backrow-josh-neill-to-academy-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/54266\/","title":{"rendered":"Leinster add South African backrow Josh Neill to academy \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">South African-born Josh Neill has been added to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/leinster-rugby\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/leinster-rugby\/\">Leinster<\/a> Academy\u2019s year one intake and will join the province early in the new year, academy manager Simon Broughton has confirmed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Irish-qualified backrow is currently attending Rondebosch Boys\u2019 High School in Cape Town and played for the South Africa under-18s in the summer series against France, England and Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The 18-year-old, who plays his club rugby with Western Province, qualifies to play for Ireland through his grandparents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He will join the rest of the academy intake in early 2026 when his school year finishes in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Josh has an older brother, Jordan, who is already based in Ireland and currently playing cricket with Northern Knights.
