After crashing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/article\/love-island-usa-season-8-who-got-dumped.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Love Island USA app<\/a> to vote on which Islanders should couple up with new bombshells Sol Dean, Jen Terry, and Caleb McDaniel, viewers split Melanie Moreno, Corbin Mims, and Beatriz Hatz from their relationships, rendering them single and vulnerable inside the villa. On <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/tv\/love-island\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Friday\u2019s episode<\/a>, Ariana Madix then handed Corbin, the lone single boy, the chance to couple up with either Melanie or Beatriz and save just one from elimination. Corbin chose Melanie in an attempt to capitalize on his attraction to her, leaving villa OG Beatriz to say good-bye in an emotional farewell to her castmates and ex-partner Gabriel, a day-one bombshell whom America paired with Jen and who sobbed as he said good-bye to Bea.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjrwmej00143b7bsvrvdxn2@published\" data-word-count=\"108\">Beatriz, however, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/bhatz_track\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">much more than just an Islander<\/a>. She\u2019s a bronze-medal Paralympian who competes in sprinting and long-jump competitions around the world. Though Bea was sad to depart Fiji, she walked away from the Love Island USA villa with a handful of close friendships and a softer sense of self. \u201cWe don\u2019t really take stuff personal as athletes, so conversing with people who are nonathletes was very interesting,\u201d she explains. \u201cI needed to learn, like, Okay, this direct communication style needs to be handled more gently.\u201d Which is also why she\u2019d like to see Sincere figure out how to have an uncomfortable conversation sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjrxnru001i3b7bv6ktxv89@published\" data-word-count=\"34\"><strong>How are you adjusting to post-villa life?<\/strong><br \/>It\u2019s going great. I\u2019m just really tired from the time change and lack of sleep, but everything\u2019s amazing back in San Diego with my friends and my dog.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjryi6u00243b7btf92hals@published\" data-word-count=\"12\"><strong>Your dog is <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DVfLPmrD3sU\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>so cute<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><br \/>He\u2019s a big boy; he\u2019s a Saint Bernard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjryi6u00253b7bfu42nygk@published\" data-word-count=\"37\"><strong>If the other Islanders had gotten to vote on who went home rather than Corbin choosing, do you think you\u2019d still be there?<\/strong><br \/>Yeah, I believe that I would still be there if the others got to choose.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjrykyz002c3b7bycxg5d4n@published\" data-word-count=\"61\"><strong>How are you processing having left the villa? The good-byes looked really emotional.<\/strong><br \/>The good-byes were really tough. I didn\u2019t wanna cry, and then seeing Gabriel cry made me cry. I just couldn\u2019t keep it together anymore and had tears streaming down my face while at the same time, it\u2019s like, \u201cAll right, we gotta lock in. I\u2019m not dying, just leaving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjryve9002k3b7blx09fucn@published\" data-word-count=\"46\"><strong>Were you surprised by Gabriel\u2019s vulnerability when you said your good-byes?<\/strong><br \/>I was very surprised about how emotional Gabriel was. I knew he\u2019d be sad, but I didn\u2019t know that he would cry and feel that deeply. I was just glad it felt reciprocated at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs1wh4002x3b7bywm6exi1@published\" data-word-count=\"85\"><strong>There are fans <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/LoveIslandUSA\/comments\/1u512x9\/why_have_people_been_flip_flopping_between\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>who seem convinced<\/strong><\/a><strong> that there were conversations you guys had that didn\u2019t make it into the edit because they were in Spanish. Did you feel like your relationship with him was pretty well represented?<\/strong><br \/>Obviously, we filmed 24 hours a day, so it\u2019s hard to fit in every chat within that hour of an episode. I think there were a lot of chats that people didn\u2019t see. He and I did have chats in Spanish, but we also had more chats in English.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs25e100353b7bftf623ns@published\" data-word-count=\"25\"><strong>Did producers ask you to speak mostly in English, or was it up to you guys?<\/strong><br \/>I actually don\u2019t know if I\u2019m supposed to answer that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs25e100363b7bnkspy9kp@published\" data-word-count=\"92\"><strong>On Aftersun, you were talking about having this tomboyish sensibility and that your time in the villa was the most you\u2019ve ever worn dresses. What was packing for this show like? Did you have to shift into a more \u201ctraditional\u201d feminine expression?<\/strong><br \/>Yeah, my gosh. It was crazy. I don\u2019t own very many dresses. I was like, Do I have to go shopping? I hit up my friends, and I was like, \u201cHey, do you have dresses I could borrow?\u201d and they\u2019re like, \u201cYes, absolutely.\u201d So most of that wardrobe was actually theirs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs25e100373b7bf9qqqo4v@published\" data-word-count=\"56\"><strong>Did you have to stick to a dress code?<\/strong><br \/>It was more that we\u2019d be told, \u201cHey, girls, we\u2019re going for this vibe,\u201d but most of the time the girls are sharing clothes and we\u2019re all hyping each other up, like, \u201cThis looks good on you!\u201d We\u2019re all helping each other make decisions on what to wear.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs2nnc003e3b7bwfrd1tik@published\" data-word-count=\"106\"><strong>Do you have a different sort of \u201cgoing out\u201d look when you\u2019re back home?<\/strong><br \/>Yeah, well, especially because I\u2019m in San Diego, it\u2019s a lot more chill. Maybe if I were in Miami or Vegas, I would own a lot more dresses because clubs and bars require that. But in San Diego, I\u2019ll most often be wearing a really cute crop top or an actual going-out top and then some baggy pants and sneakers, or sometimes I\u2019ll throw on little kitten heels. It\u2019s a little bit harder with the prosthetic because the heel height doesn\u2019t go that high, so I can\u2019t be rocking out in four-inch heels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs30ee003m3b7bxl36tslm@published\" data-word-count=\"23\"><strong>What do you miss most about being in the villa?<\/strong><br \/>I miss Trinity and Kayda. Those are my girls. I got close with them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs30ee003n3b7brpmh31ua@published\" data-word-count=\"32\"><strong>You three were all really funny in different ways \u2014 it seemed like you really liked playing off each other.<\/strong><br \/>We have very similar vibes and sense of humor. We meshed well together.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs30ee003o3b7b32mx4gb7@published\" data-word-count=\"68\"><strong>How do you think the experience of being on the show affected how you see yourself?<\/strong><br \/>I do think I grew from this experience. I met people I would have never crossed paths with. I learned how to interact with different kinds of people. I definitely think I came out of there a different person than who went in, and I think that\u2019s gonna be the case for everybody.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs30ee003p3b7be2f09zeu@published\" data-word-count=\"155\"><strong>You do a lot of traveling as a professional athlete. How is meeting people on Love Island different from meeting through a competition or sport event?<\/strong><br \/>People in athletics are very disciplined, very straightforward, like, \u201cAll right, I\u2019m doing this, this, and this. Stay out of the way for this, this, and that.\u201d The communication style is very direct with athletes because we have to be able to take criticism directly. You could be doing block starts and a coach will be like, \u201cHey, how\u2019d that feel?\u201d You\u2019d go, \u201cI think it felt okay.\u201d And they\u2019d say, \u201cWell, it looked like shit, actually. You need to fix that.\u201d We don\u2019t really take stuff personal as athletes. Conversing with people who are nonathletes was very interesting and I needed to learn, like, Okay, this direct communication style needs to be handled more gently. I\u2019m trying to take that away from the experience and put it to use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs30ee003q3b7bco4blq0q@published\" data-word-count=\"62\"><strong>Everyone was pointing out during your good-byes that you were the first to check people there and keep them in line. Have you been doing any of that from home as you\u2019ve kept watching?<\/strong><br \/>I need to go back and watch all the episodes. I\u2019ve been trying so hard because I gotta keep up with what\u2019s currently happening before I see it online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs30ee003r3b7b5pa90xab@published\" data-word-count=\"56\"><strong>I feel like you\u2019d be checking Sincere. Like, what\u2019s going on with him and Melanie and Sol?<\/strong><br \/>I feel like he had a lot going on without me really knowing. If I would have known in more detail what he was doing, I definitely would have pulled him aside and been like, \u201cBro, what are you doing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs30ee003s3b7bjxbti4l2@published\" data-word-count=\"111\"><strong>Do you think he\u2019s actually undecided about how he feels, or do you think it\u2019s more strategic than that?<\/strong><br \/>I wouldn\u2019t say it\u2019s strategic. I do think he\u2019s a person with his own feelings, and I think he\u2019s in a situation where he\u2019s being pulled in one direction and in the other. I think he is not wanting to hurt somebody\u2019s feelings, but by trying to move in a way that\u2019s supposed to be considerate, he\u2019s actually hurting both instead of being more direct and making up his mind of whether or not he wants to do this or that. It just stems from being like, \u201cOkay, I don\u2019t wanna hurt anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs30ee003t3b7bt66megu3@published\" data-word-count=\"48\"><strong>And that\u2019s the opposite from the tone you mentioned that athletes take, not being as direct as you\u2019d wanna be to spare someone\u2019s feelings in the long run.<\/strong><br \/>I also think it\u2019s like, I don\u2019t really wanna have this uncomfortable conversation. Hey, man, just say what you gotta say!<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs30ee003u3b7bkpul6ge0@published\" data-word-count=\"113\"><strong>What\u2019s been the best piece of feedback or social-media message or text you\u2019ve received since leaving the villa?<\/strong><br \/>My favorite messages that I\u2019ve received are from people saying, \u201cHey, I recently had an amputation,\u201d or \u201cYou made me look at my amputation differently,\u201d or \u201cI have this disability, even though it\u2019s different from yours, thank you for being the disability representation.\u201d I\u2019ve been getting so much love for not only that, but also being a strong female athlete and also being a Latina. These are all little pieces of me, and it\u2019s crazy to see that people love and gravitate toward and see themselves in me. I was really happy to see those messages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmqjs30ee003v3b7bsfhemc4i@published\" data-word-count=\"105\"><strong>I know it\u2019s early, but it felt like you were already a fan favorite. I talked to a lot of people who were moved by your exit, who were loving your sense of humor and how confident you felt in the villa. It doesn\u2019t seem easy to operate like that on this show.<\/strong><br \/>Thank you. It\u2019s very easy to play the comparison game in the villa. I think we all fall victim to it. We all sit there and go, Wow, I don\u2019t feel the prettiest today, and I\u2019m surrounded by these beautiful girls.
