\"CiplaFDA Pune division office in Moshi Pune: Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has issued a notice to Cipla Pharma and Life Sciences (CP&LS) to recall Reactin Plus from the state after the company advertised the Schedule H drug.Under the law, Schedule H drugs are prescription-only medication and cannot be directly advertised to the public.Joint commissioner, FDA (drugs), Pune division, Girish Hukare said, \u201cWe issued the notice after finding packets of Reactin Plus stocked in a godown in Wadki, Pune. It was advertised as an analgesic and an anti-inflammatory medicine on the packets. This is prohibited under section 74 (p) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. We have instructed CP&LS in Mumbai and drug manufacturer for Cipla HSN International in Haridwar to recall the drugs from carrying and forwarding agents, stockists, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, e-commerce and online platforms and any marketing channel across Maharashtra.\u201dThe notice was issued on June 13, after the Schedule H drug worth Rs11.2 lakh was seized in Pune. Reactin Plus oral tablets are a combination medicine of diclofenac sodium (50 mg) and paracetamol (325 mg).In addition to recalling the drugs, the notice also calls for submission of a compliance report within a week and publishing consumer information messages in newspaper outlets, failing which the FDA will take appropriate action.TOI reporter read a copy of the FDA notice which seeks a detailed recall plan within 48 hours of its issuance indicating product and batch wise distribution details, quantity manufactured and supplied in the market, names and address of the distributors and stockists, methodology and timeline for recall and proposed corrective action.Hukare said, \u201cWe are yet to get a response from the CP&LS.\u201dA copy of the notice has also been issued to the Drugs Controller General of India and the State Drugs Controller, Uttarakhand, for relevant action.TOI sent an email and text message to CP&LS\u2019s corporate communication team and representative, but there was no response till the time of going to press.Two held for unlicenced sale, supply of tramadolA joint team of the state FDA and the anti-narcotics cell I, Pune, carried out a major operation to stop misuse of drugs. Officers acted on a tip-off and found a man (28) illegally selling the prescription medicine Spas Trascen Plus (containing dicyclomine hydrochloride, tramadol hydrochloride and acetaminophen) without any licence.The seller and the supplier were arrested for possessing tramadol, while authorities continued to trace other people involved in the distribution network and the logistics chain. A criminal case was registered at the Bund Garden police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.In a statement, FDA said inspectors raided a premises on Tadiwala Road and recovered 10,492 capsules packed in 73 boxes containing 424.06 grams of tramadol, valued at Rs68,328. The quantity of the ingredient falls within the commercial quantity for controlled substances under the NDPS Act, 1985. Tramadol is a potent opioid-like analgesic and misuse without medical supervision can cause severe physical and mental harm and increased addiction.FDA commissioner of Maharashtra Tukaram Munde said, \u201cThe misuse of drugs like tramadol fosters addiction among the youth and poses a serious threat to public health.
