{"id":543362,"date":"2026-06-19T10:58:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T10:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/543362\/"},"modified":"2026-06-19T10:58:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T10:58:11","slug":"marcus-rashford-man-utd-stay-back-in-play-as-preference-beyond-barcelona-denies-newcastle-and-tottenham","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/543362\/","title":{"rendered":"Marcus Rashford: Man Utd stay &#8216;back in play&#8217; as &#8216;preference&#8217; beyond Barcelona denies Newcastle and Tottenham"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Marcus Rashford\u2019s \u2018preference\u2019 if he doesn\u2019t get his desired move to Barcelona has been revealed and it brings a return to Manchester United \u2018back into play\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/tag\/marcus-rashford\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rashford<\/a><\/strong> hasn\u2019t kicked a ball for United since December 2014 after falling out with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s since enjoyed loan spells at Aston Villa and, last season, Barcelona, for whom he got 14 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/manchester-united-barcelona-marcus-rashford\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">That wasn\u2019t enough to persuade the Catalans to take up their \u20ac30m [\u00a326m] option<\/a><\/strong> to make his loan move permanent this summer though after they signed compatriot Anthony Gordon from Newcastle for \u00a370m.<\/p>\n<p>Barcelona are interested in another loan move for Rashford but United only want his permanent exit, with plenty of suitors circling.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/england-player-ratings-croatia-kane-bellingham-madueke\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">England player ratings: Kane, Bellingham, Madueke star in wild 4-2 win over ageing Croatia<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>United have so far been adamant that there\u2019s no way back for Rashford as they target West Ham\u2019s Crycensio Summerville as a new left wing option.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7372750\/2026\/06\/19\/marcus-rashford-man-utd-england-transfer\/\" target=\"_blank\">But according to The Athletic<\/a>, \u2018the prospect of him staying comes back into play\u2019 after revealing his \u2018preference\u2019 if his move to Barcelona isn\u2019t forthcoming.<\/p>\n<p>The report claims that Rashford and his representatives \u2018have not entirely given up on Barcelona returning to the table later in the summer\u2019, but although a \u00a340m clause available to all potential suitors, excluding Manchester City and Liverpool, Rashford would rather stay at Old Trafford than move to another Premier League side.<\/p>\n<p>The report states:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u2018From Rashford\u2019s perspective, in the scenario that he is still a United player by the time he returns to Carrington after the World Cup, his preference is believed to be to see out the final two years of his contract rather than join another English club.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018If Rashford holds to that desire, and if United hold to demands that suitors refuse to meet, the prospect of him staying comes back into play.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Newcastle and Tottenham are among the Premier League clubs set to be denied his signing as a result of this reported \u2018preference\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Ferdinand votes for Rashford U-turn<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/rashford-ferdinand-man-uts-re-evaluation-mature-england-star\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Manchester United hero Rio Ferdinand believes his former club should reconsider their stance on Rashford<\/a><\/strong> after the 28-year-old\u2019s impressive season for Barcelona and his impact off the bench for the Three Lions on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you know what, Manchester United might have to start re-evaluating Marcus Rashford\u2019s situation,\u201d <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@rioferdinandpresents\" target=\"_blank\">Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m happy to change, I\u2019m happy to change. I\u2019m not wrong and strong, that\u2019s not my game. I\u2019m happy to change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seems like Marcus Rashford has matured, the time away from the club may have done him the good he needed and maybe it\u2019s cleansed both parties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs it time? Is it time to shake hands and for him to say, \u2018I\u2019m back\u2019. I think you can see a maturity with Marcus Rashford now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat spell at Barcelona has worked out in a way that he now understands his role. He was an impact player at times for Barcelona and that could be his role with England as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he\u2019s coming off the bench and making that impact then that\u2019s a huge asset to the squad because we\u2019re going to need those players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I\u2019m the opposing full-back and I see Marcus Rashford warming up, you are looking over to the bench and hoping to get subbed off because you don\u2019t want that smoke.
