{"id":544344,"date":"2026-06-19T23:59:22","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T23:59:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/544344\/"},"modified":"2026-06-19T23:59:22","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T23:59:22","slug":"a-new-avant-garde-gallery-in-ct-is-joining-a-town-renaissance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/544344\/","title":{"rendered":"A new avant-garde gallery in CT is joining a town &#8216;renaissance&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.underwaterkite.art\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">avant-garde gallery<\/a> has opened in Connecticut and its first show will feature 78 artists from New York, New England and the Midwest.<\/p>\n<p>The gallery, Underwater Kite, is in Windsor and the inaugural exhibition, \u201cTar &amp; Feathers\u201d, is designed to bring together artwork in the disciplines of painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installation art. Some of the work reflects current events, while others \u201cexplore personal issues or pure celebrations of color, form and concept,\u201d according to the venue.<\/p>\n<p>The opening, at 150 Broad St., Windsor, takes places from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 20.<\/p>\n<p>The new gallery is the brainchild of Antony Zito, portrait artist, mural painter, and former associate director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parkvilleartgallery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Parkville Art Gallery<\/a>. His experience spans three decades including Zito Studio Gallery in Manhattan and director emeritus of the NYC nonprofit that presented Portal\/Governors Island Art Fair. Pulling from his immersion in the NY and Connecticut art scenes, Zito brought together what he considers the cream of the crop for the very first public invitation into Underwater Kite, he said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"m13LA5ilQh\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courant.com\/2026\/06\/16\/the-connecticut-forums-2026-27-season-brings-news-show-hosts-economists-and-world-politics-experts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Connecticut Forum\u2019s 2026-27 season brings news show hosts, economists and world politics experts<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cUnderwater Kite is a purposefully curated white-box gallery,\u201d Zito said. \u201cPart of the new renaissance that the town of Windsor is currently in the midst of. We aim to provide an anchor of support for the\u00a0local arts community \u2013 featuring art that is not so formally traditional, or heady and over-conceptualized \u2013 but work that takes chances, is more bold and vital \u2013 rich in ideas, color and emotional depth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zito partnered with Cynthia Bulaong, the executive director of the nonprofit, <a href=\"https:\/\/openstudiohartford.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Artists in Real Time,<\/a> Inc. \u00a0In the Connecticut art scene, Bulaong\u2019s name is synonymous with large-scale event production. A.R.T. presents the annual, sprawling Open Studio Hartford, as well as Art in the Park Manchester, and other regional cultural experiences. The two joined forces over the goal to fill the need for a new art gallery in the Greater Hartford area \u2013 one with a dynamic aesthetic vision \u2013 and as part of the renaissance that Windsor is in the midst of, according to Zito.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith a tip of the hat to the concept of cancel culture \u2013 both past and present \u2013 some of the work in this show reflects current events, while many of the selections explore more personal issues \u2013 as well as pure celebrations of color, form and concept.
