A 44-year-old man who was arrested at the height of a public order incident at Lapps Quay in Cork warned garda\u00ed: \u2018I\u2019m going to cause wreck around Cork city\u201d.<\/p>\n
This was the verbal threat made by Connie Foley of Ceol Na nEan, Mallow, Co Cork, during the incident.<\/p>\n
Sergeant Gear\u00f3id Davis described the background to the incident at Cork District Court.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt occurred at Lapps Quay, Cork, in June 2024. Following a report of anti-social behaviour, garda\u00ed attended Lapps Quay where they met the accused.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“He was highly intoxicated and called the garda a \u2018f***ing scumbag\u2019 while members of the public were present,\u201d Sgt Davis said.<\/p>\n
Mr Foley then went on to make the threat about \u201cdoing wreck\u201d.<\/p>\n
He pleaded guilty to engaging in threatening behaviour and being drunk and a source of danger to himself or others.<\/p>\n
He also admitted that on May 3 this year at JD Sports, Patrick\u2019s Street, Cork, he stole \u20ac143 worth of clothing.<\/p>\n
Sgt Davis said the accused had 144 previous convictions, including 37 for being drunk and a danger, 12 for being threatening and abusive, eight for robbery, one for aggravated burglary, four for burglary and 17 for theft.<\/p>\n
Solicitor Shane Collins-Daly solicitor said his client accepted that he had a very poor record of offending. “He has longstanding alcohol and drugs problems. He moved to Mallow to remove himself from the situation he was in in Cork city.<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHis mental health problems deteriorated and it led to him being quite unwell.\u00a0\n <\/p>\n
“He is suffering from acute paranoia, according to his own instructions.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“He has a complex psychiatric history. He apologises for committing these offences.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
