It is a piece of an icy exoplanet, more specifically an “exo-Pluto,” a group of cosmic bodies that are highly unlikely to visit the Sun. “Everything about this object is consistent with it being a slab of nitrogen ice like you see on the surface of Pluto,” said Steve Desch, an exoplanet researcher at Arizona State University. 1I\/’Oumuamua wasn’t spotted until 40 days after it had made its closest approach to the Sun. Canadian Robert Weryk spotted it using the Pan-STARRS telescope at Haleakal\u0101 Observatory, Hawaii, on 19 October 2017. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"1I\/’Oumuamua, the first interstellar object to visit our solar system in 2017, belongs to a completely new class…\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":54791,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[270],"tags":[10866,18,19,10881,10867,17,25586,10870,39792,39794,39793,17897,133,451,39790,39791],"class_list":{"0":"post-54790","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-space","8":"tag-3i-atlas","9":"tag-eire","10":"tag-ie","11":"tag-interstellar-comet","12":"tag-interstellar-object","13":"tag-ireland","14":"tag-kuiper-belt","15":"tag-oumuamua","16":"tag-oumuamua-interstellar","17":"tag-oumuamua-pluto","18":"tag-oumuamua-shape","19":"tag-pluto","20":"tag-science","21":"tag-space","22":"tag-what-is-oumuamua","23":"tag-where-did-oumuamua-come-from"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/54790","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=54790"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/54790\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/54791"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=54790"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=54790"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=54790"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
