Director of Public Prosecutions<\/a> (DPP), that the cases involved 33 alleged injured parties. She submitted Supreme Court case law which she said outlines that the complainants in a case must \u201chave their say\u201d with regard to the release of transcripts of a trial.<\/p>\nThe judge told Staines that the court could not go against the Supreme Court precedent. Staines told the court that \u201cnothing I publish is going in to the public domain\u201d.<\/p>\n
In response, the judge said that complainants \u201cshould know what\u2019s going on\u201d and said they are \u201centitled to know where their details are going\u201d.<\/p>\n
She told Staines that he could make the application again \u201cif you can tell them those 33 people have been notified\u201d.<\/p>\n
Staines said as part of the scoping exercise he has spoken to \u201cmany complainants\u201d as well as to a representative organisation representing \u201chundreds of complainants\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said there\u2019s \u201csomething in the region of 400\u201d complainants and that it\u2019s not clear which of them have had trials. He said his report is due next Wednesday.<\/p>\n
He said he had corresponded with the DPP in relation to this matter in April and it was \u201cpretty clear\u201d then that \u201cthere was no issue\u201d.<\/p>\n
The judge put it to O\u2019Neill that the DPP knew the transcripts were being sought. O\u2019Neill replied that \u201cthere was no application before the court\u201d at that point. She said the DPP was neither objecting or consenting to the application. <\/p>\n
She told the court that the DPP has addresses for the people whose complaints went to trial but that many of them would be out of date, with some going back to 2012.<\/p>\n
In a second application, Staines asked the court to release the indictments of the trials and the judge allowed this.<\/p>\n
