{"id":549959,"date":"2026-06-23T11:56:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T11:56:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/549959\/"},"modified":"2026-06-23T11:56:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T11:56:11","slug":"banijay-u-k-chief-says-it-was-right-to-investigate-masterchefs-gregg-wallace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/549959\/","title":{"rendered":"Banijay U.K. Chief Says It Was Right to Investigate &#8216;MasterChef&#8217;s&#8217; Gregg Wallace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBanijay U.K. boss Patrick Holland defended the company\u2019s investigation into sacked \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/masterchef\/\" id=\"auto-tag_masterchef\" data-tag=\"masterchef\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MasterChef<\/a>\u201d host Gregg Wallace, saying it was \u201ccompletely right\u201d for the production company to take the reigns over <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/bbc\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bbc\" data-tag=\"bbc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BBC<\/a>, which is the show\u2019s longtime broadcaster.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe are independent producers,\u201d Holland said. \u201cWe have our duties and responsibilities, legal responsibilities to our staff that work for us as producers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI think as producers it was completely right that it was Banijay that did that investigation that instructed the third-party solicitors, because it was an investigation into one of our shows. And I think the BBC were quite clear at the time that this was a Banijay investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLongtime \u201cMasterChef\u201d host Gregg Wallace was <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/bbc-gregg-wallace-investigation-masterchef-1236459379\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fired from the BBC show<\/a> last summer after an investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHolland made the statement during a Culture, Media and Sport Committee inquiry into the future of the BBC at the House of Commons.
