{"id":55,"date":"2025-08-14T00:45:58","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T00:45:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/55\/"},"modified":"2025-08-14T00:45:58","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T00:45:58","slug":"firefighters-tackle-gorse-fire-at-ticknock-park-in-dublin-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/55\/","title":{"rendered":"Firefighters tackle gorse fire at Ticknock Park in Dublin \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Firefighters have been battling a gorse wildfire at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\">Ticknock Park<\/a>, Cherrywood since Tuesday night. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-fire-brigade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-fire-brigade\/\">Dublin Fire Brigade<\/a> (DFB) confirmed that units from D\u00fan Laoghaire and Donnybrook stations were still at the scene on Wednesday dealing with the incident. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Videos posted to social media show a thick layer of smoke across the area, visible from the nearby M50. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A combination of backpack sprayers, lightweight hoses and other tools were used to prevent the fire spreading.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Firefighters continued to extinguish the Ticknick gorse <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/wildfire?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#wildfire<\/a> in Cherrywood.<\/p>\n<p>A combination of backpack sprayers and hand tools along with lightweight hose were used to prevent fire spread. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sh3C8Oc3WA\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/sh3C8Oc3WA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dublin Fire Brigade (@DubFireBrigade) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DubFireBrigade\/status\/1955548539263783048?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">August 13, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cMost wildfires are as a result of human interaction\u201d, DFB said on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It has appealed for people to avoid setting open fires and to only use barbecues in designated places. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Fine Gael Councillor for Glencullen-Sandyford Pierce Dargan said while it was \u201ctoo early to tell\u201d the cause of the fire, \u201cmost of these fires are found to be caused unfortunately by people who have barbecues or set camp fires, and that\u2019s just a fact.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He echoed Dublin Fire Brigade\u2019s appeal not to light fires or use barbecues in the area. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In a statement, Dublin City Council, which is responsible for the fire brigade, said it had received multiple 999 calls shortly before 2pm on Wednesday reporting a flare up of the gorse wildfire at Ticknock.   <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cTwo fire engines from Dun Laoghaire and Donnybrook fire stations are currently on scene and they being supported by a water tanker and foam tender,\u201d it said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cWe are asking local residents to close all windows and doors if they are affected by smoke.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Firefighters have been battling a gorse wildfire at Ticknock Park, Cherrywood since Tuesday night.
