They will feature enhancements to the brand\u2019s N e-shift simulated gearbox technology that could add idling, backfiring, vibrations, and other combustion quirks to the EV driving experience.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are not the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/798967\/2027-porsche-taycan-fake-gear-changes\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22798967%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%222027-porsche-taycan-fake-gear-changes%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">serious Porsche guys<\/a>,\u201d said Manfred Harrer, the automaker\u2019s head of R&amp;D, in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/electric-cars\/hyundai-developing-even-more-realistic-electric-n-cars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Autocar<\/a>. \u201cWe are fun to drive.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Harrer didn\u2019t specify what enhancements <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/hyundai\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"2\" data-params=\"%7B%22alias%22%3A%22hyundai%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hyundai<\/a> will add, only imagining the possibilities, but he confirmed to the publication that the automaker is already testing the technology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are leading\u2014we are not following\u2014on this technology,\u201d said Harrer, adding that he wants to \u201cmake it even more realistic\u201d and \u201cenhance it further.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s Next For Hyundai\u2019s Electric N Models\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hyundai\u2019s next-gen electric N cars might arrive with more than just fancy software to enhance the driving experience. The automaker recently filed a patent for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/796355\/hyundai-fake-manual-transmission-patent\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22796355%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22hyundai-fake-manual-transmission-patent%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shift-by-wire mechanism<\/a> that can operate like a gated manual or a traditional automatic transmission. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new shifter has a clutch that enables manual mode and a neutral position, recreating the manual transmission regardless of the actual gearbox. It would be a perfect addition to Hyundai\u2019s N cars when paired with new software upgrades. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new electric N cars will ride on the automaker\u2019s upcoming Integrated Modular Architecture (IMA) that Harrer classifies as not a \u201crevolution\u201d but a \u201chuge evolution,\u201d which will have \u201cincremental improvements\u201d over the E-GMP that it will replace. It underpins the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/hyundai\/ioniq-5\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22hyundai%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22ioniq-5%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ioniq 5<\/a>, the Ioniq 6, and the Ioniq 9.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The platform will offer upgraded thermal management and new battery technology to improve efficiency and reduce costs, but it\u2019s unclear when Hyundai will begin launching its next-gen EVs.
