{"id":551766,"date":"2026-06-24T12:56:26","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T12:56:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/551766\/"},"modified":"2026-06-24T12:56:26","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T12:56:26","slug":"ransom-note-claims-nancy-guthrie-died-after-abduction-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/551766\/","title":{"rendered":"Ransom note claims Nancy Guthrie died after abduction \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A ransom note related to the disappearance of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/podcasts\/in-the-news\/nancy-guthrie-the-kidnapping-gripping-the-us\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/podcasts\/in-the-news\/nancy-guthrie-the-kidnapping-gripping-the-us\/\">Nancy Guthrie<\/a>, the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, said the 84-year-old had died, it has been reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Some media outlets had previously reported receiving ransom notes tied to the case in the days after Guthrie\u2019s disappearance in early February from her home in the foothills just outside Tucson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">CNN reported one of the notes said that Guthrie was dead \u2013 and those who kidnapped her did not mean to kill her but she died shortly after her disappearance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">CNN said it knew the contents of one such note and that a Tucson TV station had received two notes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">CNN and the station agreed to hold off on sharing the contents of the notes publicly so any future communications with the kidnapper or kidnappers could be authenticated, CNN reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Pima County sheriff\u2019s department declined to comment on the note\u2019s contents. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/fbi\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/fbi\/\">FBI<\/a> did not respond to a request for comment. And the Guthrie family did not make any immediate social media posts or any public comments about the notes on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Jessica Bobula, news director for the Tucson TV station KOLD, said the station received several notes after Guthrie disappeared. The FBI later released surveillance videos showing a masked man on the porch that night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Volunteers and search teams scoured the nearby desert terrain filled with cacti, bushes and boulders in the weeks after she vanished.
