The dollar value of Thailand\u2019s \u200bexports rose \u200c10.6% in May from a year earlier, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday, slightly lower \u200bthan analysts\u2019 \u2060expectations.<\/p>\n

The May reading compared with a forecast rise \u200cof 12% in a Reuters poll and followed an increase of 23.1% \u2060the previous month.<\/p>\n

The dollar value of imports rose by 35.1% in May from a year earlier.<\/p>\n

Thailand recorded a trade deficit of $5.71 billion \u200bfor the month, compared with $6.12 billion forecast \u200bby those \u200cpolled.<\/p>\n

The ministry expects exports to post full-year growth of 8%, \u2060supported by easing global tensions and strong demand for technology products, said Nantapong Chiralerspong, head of the ministry\u2019s Trade Policy and Strategy Office.<\/p>\n

In the first five months of 2026, exports rose 17% year-on-year. Full-year \u200bexport growth was 12.9% last year.<\/p>\n

In May, shipments to the United States, Thailand\u2019s largest market, increased by 33.5% \u200bfrom \u200ca year earlier, while shipments to China dropped 2.5%, the ministry said.<\/p>\n

Exports are now likely \u200bto \u2060post single-digit growth each month over the remainder of the year, Mr Nantapong said.<\/p>\n

Frontloading of \u2060exports to the US amid tariff uncertainty has boosted growth so far this year, though this will ease, the ministry said.<\/p>\n

US tariff measures are expected \u2060to be no more severe than anticipated, and \u200bexporters are seen as being able to adjust, the ministry said.<\/p>\n
