Director Craig Gillespie\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/dc-studios\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dc-studios_1\" data-tag=\"dc-studios\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DC Studios<\/a> superhero movie kicked things off with a $7.8 million start from Thursday previews.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/warner-bros\/\" id=\"auto-tag_warner-bros_1\" data-tag=\"warner-bros\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Warner Bros.<\/a> title follows last summer\u2019s Superman and stars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/milly-alcock\/\" id=\"auto-tag_milly-alcock_1\" data-tag=\"milly-alcock\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milly Alcock<\/a> as Kara Zor-El, the cousin of the Man of Steel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAfter a cameo in 2025\u2019s Superman, Alcock returns as Supergirl for the second big-screen feature in the DC slate cooked up by bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tReviews have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/supergirl-box-office-house-of-the-dragon-review-1236630713\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/supergirl-box-office-house-of-the-dragon-review-1236630713\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">mixed<\/a>, with The Hollywood Reporter\u2019s chief film critic David Rooney <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/supergirl-review-milly-alcock-jason-momoa-dcu-1236629004\/\">deeming it an \u201cuninspired slog,\u201d<\/a> although praising \u201cMilly Alcock\u2019s hard-edged performance making her an appealingly punky protagonist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAfter starring as Aquaman for the previous DC regime, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jason-momoa\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jason-momoa_1\" data-tag=\"jason-momoa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Momoa<\/a> joins Alcock as comics bad boy Lobo. Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham round out the cast, while David Corenswet reprises his role as Superman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAlso opening this weekend is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/paramount\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paramount_1\" data-tag=\"paramount\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paramount<\/a>\u2018s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jackass\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jackass_1\" data-tag=\"jackass\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jackass<\/a>: Best and Last, which collected $1.2 million from Thursday previews. Director Jeff Tremaine\u2019s fifth feature in the ribald <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/johnny-knoxville-0\/\" id=\"auto-tag_johnny-knoxville-0_1\" data-tag=\"johnny-knoxville-0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Johnny Knoxville<\/a>-led franchise is eyeing $10 million domestically, with the benefit of a budget of just $10 million. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFollowing 2022\u2019s Jackass Forever, the latest installment sees the return of Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius and the rest of the pain-seeking cohorts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAdditionally, Scary Movie from Paramount and Miramax crossed $100 million at the domestic box office on Thursday, becoming the first R-rated comedy to hit the milestone since 2017\u2019s Girls Trip. Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans lead the film that has surpassed $200 million globally. The franchise that kicked off with 2000\u2019s original Scary Movie has now reached the $1 billion mark worldwide, thanks to the current sixth title in the series. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/jackass-best-and-last-review-johnny-knoxville-steve-o-1236629628\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">review of Jackass: Best and Last<\/a>, THR critic Frank Scheck called Knoxville an \u201cappealing performer\u201d and quipped, \u201cIf you\u2019re nostalgic to once again see Steve-O strapped into a porta potty and slung into the air only to be covered in excrement, you\u2019re in luck.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Supergirl has begun its box office run.
